Title ----- Commuter Train v1 Goal ---- Running a commuter (passenger) train on a track makes it more realistic when it stops at the stations. This solution supports 3 stations to stop at with a random interval. Solution -------- On the track plan choose maximal 3 locations to let the train stop. Mark the stop position of the locomotive on the track. Determine the position where the train should slow down to stop eventually at the station. Put a light sensor at that location and use for the other 2 locations the same distance between the stop position and the light sensor. Start playing around with the NQC file to meet your requirements. This solution requires a RCX brick with power jack because the track is continously powered by the RCX brick because the RCX also controls the speed of the approaching train at the station. Advantage of this solution is that the train may consist of two motors, even at the beginning and end of the train. Bill Of Materials (for two buffers) ----------------------------------- 1x RCX with Power Jack 3x Light Brick 3x Light Sensor 1x Train Track Contacts .. Electric Wire .. Track Straight/Curved Limitations ----------- It takes a while to modify the .NQC file to fit for your own needs. But I've noticed that the train will not stop always at the exact location and I think this probably has something to do with the length of the track and the overall voltage on the track. Not sure right now ... Remark ------ The setting is the .NQC file are used to let the 4560 Railway Express stop at two random stations. The train stops within 6 pieces of track.
