The Etyvon was constructed over a week or so in the summer of '07 as an effort to "go out with a bang," since I am now in college and have been forced into my "dark ages." The name of the ship has no significance in particular, being derived from the linguistic term etymon, meaning (according to Encarta) "an earlier form of a word or part of a word, especially the first recorded form in any language" or "a word or part of a word from which another word is derived." As with the majority of MOCs, the Etyvon was not inspired by any source in particular; I built it practically from scratch, with only a vague concept guiding the construction efforts. The completed form bears some resemblance to the Incom T65 X-wing and its kin.
In theory, the Etyvon is a short-range heavy assault fighter, carrying massively powerful shields and formidable weaponry, while still retaining excellent speed and decent maneuverability, which it accomplishes by sacrificing virtually any other feature.
The Etyvon's fuel-sucking propulsion system limits flight time to 36 hours, henceforth the fighter is used only as local defense or as part of a convoy. It consists of twin helical ion centrifuges feeding into a repulsion field at the nozzle. The engines are exposed to space to aid cooling, since the dense shielding makes armor superfluous.
