Cathedral in progress I wanted to build a cathedral complete with a transept. Normally that requires a lot of big arches. My only contribution to the art come from looking at complex arches in my own church St Patrick which has compound arches. The basic problem both in LEGOs and real life is to have a sufficiently wide central archway. To solve the problem I took 4 (PN 2339) 1 x 5 x 4 brick arches and made a compound arch way. Take 2 half arches and join them with a 1 x 8 plate. Then put 2 arches above it and you have a rafter set that is 16 pins wide. I have seen folks use inverted slopes under an arch to increase apparent width. Using that technique you could span 18 or even perhaps 20 pins. I am more of an engineer than an artist. I’ll plead the stain glass windows; interior and roof are on order. My only point is maybe some one else can use a this 16 pin arch technique.
