COLONIAL VIPER from Battlestar Galactica (1978) by Cassiebsg This is my version of a Colonial Viper from the TV show Battlestar Galactica (the original one from 1978!), and it was inspired by the one made by Mark Kelso ( http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=226040 ) which is a great one and it made me drool "I WANT ONE!". It's scale is aproximated 1:40 (minifig scale?). The use of the two different light greys is intentional, though not used intentional in any specific area. I just figured (or made my self to believe) that since this is a fighter in "a ragtag fleet fleeing from the Cylon tyrany", that keeping the ship operational would be more important than giving it a nice coat of paint, or making sure the replaced panels have the correct color/material. Besides I also wanted to buy the less possible bricks. ;) The motors should be bigger I know, but I couldn't find nice round parts with the correct size... of course I've thought and learn of other technics since I started it, but I'm not in the mood to change it now. Maybe in the future. Cockpit interiors were printed on glossy photo paper, cut with a x-acto knife and glued using a "gentle" glue made by UHU that can be removed with plain water and soap. I was in the process of designing my own cockpit interiors when I found some great ones made by Joel Owens (thanks David!), so I used his instead with only minor adjustings so they could fit into LEGO scale and my cockpit. :D The red stripes on the motor and dark bluish grey on the middle side of the motor air entrance, where painted using acrilic paints from Tamiya and Gunze Sangyo, that can easily be cleaned out with no damage to the plastic using plain alchool! Now I know many AFOLs don't like painted stuff, but I really can't see a diference between this and printing or adding stickers. :p Besides, I made this model for my own pleasure, so am not looking for aproval here. Also, this is not a "play" model since it's kind of fragile, with entire parts hold only by 1 or 2 studs/points. Next stage, to do the hangar. :D You can see pictures of the original viper and hangar made for the show here: http://www.cloudster.com/Sets&Vehicles/Viper/ViperMockup.htm And Joel Owens's cockpit interior design here: http://www.joelowens.org/bsg/index.html Version 1, September 2009.
