it's called the HRV-001, or "Harvey". the recent boom in Terraforming means that there are planets out there which are ready to support life, but which have not been explored yet. one of the drawbacks which nobody bothered to consider when they created remote Terraformation drones. the Harvey has been purpose-built to explore these planets before colonization begins. it's twin sensor arrays allow it to scan a 360 arc around itself with the most advanced detection gear available. the heavily armored and insulated hull can maintain internal temperature even when it's 300 below outside or 800 above. inside are temperature and atmosphere sensors, remote soil analyzers, radiation readers, multiple radar readouts, and controls for the RD-40 "Swallow" mapping drone. the HRV also has double linear fusion reactors, mounted above and between the tread assemblies. the light clusters on the front of the Harvey give it over a mile of visibility, in addition to the sensor ranges. the hose cluster on the right side is part of a liquid analysis and purification system, which supplies drinking water for the crew. the winch on the back has a 50 tonne capacity, which is enough to lift the HRV if need be. key to the Harvey's mission, though, is the RD-40 drone. the two rails on the roof of the Harvey are part of a magnetic acceleration system which boosts the drone to takeoff speed, as well as serving as a braking system during landing. the drone takes off and lands on it's own programming, but can be piloted remotely once airborne. it's swing-wing allows it to map at varying speeds and resolutions. at it's cruising altitude of 3km, it can map at resolutions from 1m to 1dm, depending on it's speed. it's internal power supply gives it up to 150 hours of flight time, and high-efficiency solar cells can prolong it's flight as long as there is enough sunlight to power the engines. crew consists of six. one driver, one navigator, one drone-pilot and three sensor operators. currently the HRV does not have any living quarters, but work is proceeding on a trailer-style quarters vehicle, either towed directly, or slave-linked to follow the HRV. more information will arrive when the quarters vehicle is complete.
