Octopus was crafted hastily by a few Freelug members (www.freelug.org) during a Mindstorms oriented meeting. An octopod configuration was chosen to ensure stability even while turning: steering is done by stopping or reversing movement on left or right legs, so they can't remain synchronised. Two motors are used on each side of the walker to get enough power. The two middle feet are rubbered to get more grip, while front and rear ones are not to ease turning. Two light sensors on each side of the line make it easy to follow. The time used by Octopus to complete the walk was 14.5 seconds. The movie is compressed with Divx 5.1.1 codec. - Freelug team -
