This model was made as an entry to the P38 contest on Lugnet/Zemi.net, and I must say I really enjoyed the challenge. First model of the year. I created it on the 26th and made some minor changes on the 27th (moving the guns). Since I didn't have time to visit my parents where my lego is, I had to make it directly in MLCad. Its 28x32(x13) cm and made up of 209 pieces. Like with a lot of my other models, the wings doubles as landing gear, but as Steve Krass reminded me, size is important when fighters are based at carriers. (http://news.lugnet.com/build/contests/?n=1583) So to prepare for consumer needs, I designed a NAVY version that could fold up nicely to fit a box of 34x30x8 studs: It's a bit smaller, but a little more expensive to build: 27x31(x13) cm deployed and made up of 225 pieces 27x24(x7) cm folded. I'll upload some pictures of it soon. If you are interested in seeing more of my models, I've just published my webpage at www.lego.bugge.com, where I'm planning to display all my models together with detailed descriptions on how I build them. (including the secret and highly advanced techniques) But don't expect to learn the secrets of the P38 yet: Its my (recorded) model # 44, and, and I've only reached #16 so far. There is still a lot to look at however (280 pictures), and I hope to upload new models at a steady pace. - http://www.zemi.net/lego/contest.html: "Rules of competition: The Lockheed P-38 Lightning was one of the most unique aircraft built for World War II. Check out this page [http://p-38online.com/] for more information on the P-38. For this contest create a spacecraft that exhibits the P-38's signature design. Build a spaceworthy vessel that features the split fusilage, wing and cockpit configuration of the P-38. The rest is up to you. New creations only please! Email a 640x480 picture of your model, along with your name and a link to any additional images. Submissions can be in minifig or microfig scale. There will be a winner chosen for each scale and some sort of small award. Contest ends March 31st. Have fun!"
