Start Up: Begins a new game. Continue: Allows you to start off from one of the save files (See Saving). Leave: Exits the game. Naming your Character: If you select Start Up, you’ll come across a screen that allows you to name the main character. Use the Arrow keys to select letters, ENTER to select that letter, and INSERT to delete a letter. NOTE: When pressing INSERT, you may delete more than one letter. The box that shows the name you are typing will display a box around either one or two letters. If two are inside, both are deleted with one press of INSERT. 2: Controls—Overworld Arrow Keys: Move your character around the Overworld. ENTER*: Talk to people, Examine/pick up objects, Attack enemies, Perform special actions in Minigames(See Minigames). INSERT*: Go to the Pause Screen, Exit a Shop Window, Answer “No” to a question. SHIFT: Special Functions in Minigames(See Minigames), Initiate Secret Codes (See Secret Codes). *--ENTER and INSERT can be substituted with SPACE and ESCAPE respectively. 3: Controls—Battle Arrow Keys: Select Battle Command (See Characters), Select target for battle command*. ENTER: Choose a battle command and/or target for that command. INSERT: Cancel. *--NOTE: Use the UP and DOWN arrow keys to select your target. LEFT and RIGHT do not work. 4: The Pause Screen When you press INSERT or ESCAPE while in the Overworld, you’ll reach the Pause Screen. The Pause screen shows three things: Quick Stats: This is on the right, and shows basic stats for each character (i.e. HP, PP, Experience, etc.). Money Gauge: This shows the amount of money you currently have. It only shows Skulls, however, not Gold Coins (See Currency). Menu: From here, you can use the Arrow Keys to select one of several options: Pack: Allows you to use items that you currently possess. Many f these items can be retrieved from enemies or purchased in Shops. Some, however, are only found in certain areas. Some may even be necessary to proceed. Attacks: This shows you what abilities each character currently has, and how many PP they cost. Some abilities may also be used outside of battle, so getting used to this screen will be very handy. Equipment: This screen allows you to change the equipment your player currently possesses. Changing equipment is an essential part of the game, and can mean the difference between life and death in some cases. Be warned, however; some pieces of equipment are cursed, and won’t come off unless you talk to a certain Matoran in Dock Town. Status: This screen shows the same information as the Quick- Status screen, but in greater detail. It also shows each character’s levels of the four basic Stats (Strength, Toughness, Brains and Speed). Make it Easy/Challenge Me: When Make it Easy is displayed, enemy and ally characters continue to attack when you are selecting battle commands. When Challenge Me is displayed, time freezes while you select battle commands. 5: Saving Unlike most RPGmaker games, you cannot save through the Pause Menu. Instead, you must find Save Points (Gold Statues of the main hero). Press Enter in front of one, and answer Yes to enter the Save Menu. Once there, use the Up and Down Arrow Keys to select one of the 15 save files to save your game. NOTE: Once a Save file is overwritten, it CANNOT be retrieved. Save with caution. 6: Characters Each of the four playable characters has different strengths, weaknesses and abilities. Use these differences when in battle to your advantage. [Piraka]: The first character you play as is all grunt, and is the only character to have two different sets of abilities. Abilities: Normal Abilities: These tend to be wild, aggressive, and narcicistic (gee… reminds you of a certain… Piraka, doesn’t it…). He also tends to attack all enemies at once. Taunts: These attacks are meant to drain the enemy’s stats, weakening them before a devastating blow. Stats: HP: Medium PP: Medium Strength: High Toughness: Medium Brains: Low Speed: Low Garten: The second character, chief aide to the King. He’s smart, geeky, and has a quick wit. He can’t attack outside of Auto-Battle, but can Defend and Flee. Abilities: Garten’s skills aren’t made for attack; they’re made to wear down on an enemy’s stats. He does have an attacking ability, but he doesn’t acquire it until he’s progressed drastically. Stats: HP: Low PP: Medium Strength: Low Toughness: Low Brains: High Speed: High Captain Edotamen: As an ex-pirate, this Captain is more well-rounded than most of the other characters, and prefers to fight without the aid of items. Abilities: All but one of Captain Edo’s skills is a strong attack, usually involving something from his ship, the Takea’s Revenge. Stats: HP: Medium PP: Low Strength: Medium Toughness: High Brains: Medium Speed: Medium Rondo: The last character you encounter is a specialist in musical mayhem. He may be rebellious, but on your side, he’s here to stay. He’s an able fighter to the end, and a good strategic character to have. Abilities: Rondo’s attacks are a combination of brute force, strategic weakening, and sonic power. Use them wisely—Some attacks may not work on some enemies. Stats: HP: High PP: High Strength: Low Toughness: Medium Brains: High Speed: Medium 7: Status Ailments In battle, you may encounter attacks directed both at you and the enemy that change their status. Here’s a list of the different conditions your characters may receive in combat. Fine!: Normal status. Basically, you’re… Fine! Afraid: This lowers your Toughness and prevents you from attacking. You also lose a little bit of PP. Burned: You lose some HP each turn when you’re burned. Chilly: Basically, you’re frozen, so you can’t move. You also lose some HP and PP while Chilly. Pumped!: Your Strength and Toughness are increased, and your HP and PP are healed slightly. You even send enemies’ skills back at them! Attacks to whoever is Pumped may deflate his ego and end the effects, however. Snoozin’: Again, you can’t do anything, this time because you’re asleep. A quick attack might wake you up, though. Drained: Your Toughness and Speed are decreased, and your HP and MP rapidly drain. This is a condition to avoid. Confused: You attack your friends at random, and may not be able to use some abilities. Though, when you can’t control who you’re attacking, that’s probably a good thing. 8: Inns and Shops Inns: If you are ever low on HP and PP, head for a nearby town and stay at the inn there. For a small fee, you can completely recharge your entire party. Shops: While you can get items from enemies, it is almost always a better idea to buy your items from shops. Here’s a list of some of the items you can purchase: Bula Berry: Restores HP. Rotten Bula: Heals a downed ally. Power Pack: Restores PP. Restorative Items: These may heal HP, PP, and some status ailments. Try them out to see how they work. Some items may even be able to work multiple times. Remember—While items may be useful, they are also limited in quantity. Use them wisely. Armories Weapons: Weapons generally boost your Strength, but may decrease some other stats. Be aware of what you’re giving up before you equip a weapon. Charms: Charms give you immunity to specific Status Ailments, as well as boost your stats. Armor: This usually increases your Toughness, but not much else. Kanohi: These boost stats, though which ones depend on the mask. Normally, there are no bad side effects to wearing a Kanohi, though one or two might do some harm… Other Junk: This is a complete mystery. You’ll have to figure this one out on your own. 9: Currency Unlike most games, which only feature one standard unit of currency, Piraka Mania has two: Skulls and Gold Coins. Skulls: These are general-purpose items that can get you just about anything you want. You can get them by selling items or by defeating enemies. There is almost no limit to the amount of Skulls you can have on you at any given moment. Gold Coins: The outdated currency, Gold Coins You can get them from some enemies or by winning Minigames. You can only use them for two purposes: Exchanging them for Skulls, or buying specialty items at Gorro’s Shop in the Private Woods. You can only carry up to 99 at a time. 10: Minigame Guide Stair Surfing Controls: Arrow Keys (Move), ENTER (Jump) Description: A Minigame you must play to proceed, you have to surf down the crumbling Endless Stairs while dodging rocks and debris resting on the stairs. Get pushed back to the top of the screen, and yo9u have to start over again. The game ends after about a minute, when the music fades out. Rets’s Race Controls: ENTER Description: Press ENTER with the right rhythm (twice per second) and try to beat Rets to the finish line. Oob Toob Controls: Arrow Keys (Move, Menu select), ENTER This isn’t really a minigame. You can fight any boss you’ve already beaten (except Phanaka and the Dark Ones), and get money off them. You won’t gain experience, though. Rahi Racing (Not in DEMO 3) Controls: Arrow Keys (Move), ENTER and SHIFT (Move) Description: Press the button displayed on the screen to move your Rahi. The first one to the finish line wins, but you still get a prize if you get second or third. Dart Tossing (COMING SOON!)
