My first Lego moves after long dark ages… This is the smallest-width pendulum steering axle with functioning differential I could think off. Used 8880 steering parts because they are 5 high, allowing a differential to just fit between the steering arms. Did not yet complete it fully (not yet included all the 8880 steering parts like wheel hub and ball with groves), but for those familiar with the system the idea should be clear. Pendulum around steering shaft. Driving shaft to be connected by double universal joint to (still imaginary) central differential in vehicle frame. This nicely separates the driving and steering shaft, while still allowing pendulum movement. Note the Ackermann steering effect (smaller steering radius for inside wheel than for outside wheel) which is inherent to 8880 steering. Final goal is a Claas Xerion tractor. To be continued.
