Robotics Invention System v1.0 ----------------------------------------------------------- Sim:Bot Sim:Bot is based on the game found on the Minstorms webpage that allows you to program and control a virtual robot. The Sim:Bot in the game is based on a real robot that can be built using the Lego Mindstorms Robotic Invention System. While this one was built using v1.0, its best to use v2.0 to use the full capabilities of the robot. More information about the Sim:Bot can be found here: http://mindstorms.lego.com/simbot/default.asp Design: * capable of detecting collisions with a wall in either forward or reverse * capable of dececting edged in either forward or reverse * capable of detecting the light in the room * moves forward and backwards and can turn As there are no instructions are provided for constructing Sim:Bot, you have to look at the website to see how its built. Fortunately, they provide you with video clips on how the Sim:Bot detects walls and edges, allowing you to reverse engineer the robot. Programming: In the game, the program for the Sim:Bot is usually custom to each scenario in the game, but in real life scenarios, it is possible to give Sim:Bot a general program on how to move around its environment, including some standard programs to tell it how to react upon a collision. Unfortunately as I only have v1.0 I haven't been able to fully explore Sim:Bots potential, such as giving Sim:Bot a memory to remember where its been, which is outside of the programming scope of RIS v1.0. Such features are used in the Sim:Bot game at the higher levels. Comments: Sim:Bot is a versitile mobile robot with good collision detection and scope for alot of problem solving abilities. Unfortunately it doesn't really support modification with accessories like claws. ----------------------------------------------------------- AraKaraath halfDragon arakaraath@hotmail.com
