Hi, If you're reading this, it means you found my Star Trek Microfig Lego site. Here are some observations about it. About the scale: ---------------- Star Trek ships are just too big to make on minifig scale, so I started to use the microfig scale. Roughly I count 1 stud for 3 meters, which makes these ships about 120 meters. Why I did it: ------------- After studying a few microfig designs, i found that most of them were Star Wars models, and almost no capital ships. I prefer Star Trek, so I tried and tried and tried ... finally i think i got somewhere! This is the result. About the ship: --------------- These two ships are some of many Star Trek-like ships I have made over the passed few years. They were designed to illustrate most of the tricks i use on microfig scale, but without being to large to ldraw (it's about 200 pieces). They're rather small ships, still they feature all main properties of star Trek vessels: an upper and lower section, an ejectable warpcore, adjustable warp nacelles, bussard-collectors, shuttle bay, a holodeck, sickbay, bridge, shuttle bay, escape pods, phaser banks, sensor array, ... About the tricks: ----------------- The hardest thing to do is get the shape right. Federation vessels are mostly curved (and do not have studs :-) ), the use of sw-wings was a first step towards this, together with slope pieces. After that i discovered that eventhough the ships were smooth, they were not all that smooth, i started experimenting by adding domes, phaser banks, sensor arrays, ... Thereafter i implemented shuttlebays so i could use the different shuttles i've made. The next step were escape pods and an ejecatble warp core. The new sw-hinges and sw-engines made adjustable warp nacelles possible, even if the nacelles are more like the ones in the original Star Trek series. Last thing i found is that even on a minifig scale one could build interior decks with quite alot of details. What is not illustrated: ------------------------ Most features are illustraded in this model, however i've made more, including a launching pad for runabouts (DS9), two other types of (larger) deflectors, stellar cartography deck, etc ... About ldrawing: --------------- I deliberatly kept the size of the starships small so i could ldraw it, i used ldraw combined with leocad to make the pictures.
