Last MOC before my dark ages. The photos were taken shortly after I've got my Technic LEGO from my parents attic in 2008. You can clearly see the dust on the Jeep. It was separately stored and not disassembled in a carton from my remaining LEGO. Build date must be around 1990. Goal was to build my last MOC which will last a long time. At this time I was aware that I won't play LEGO for a long time (or forever). So this Jeep features: * Independant double wishbone suspension on all wheels (you can clearly see that they come from 8865 Test Car), but they were extended to maximum mobility. * Front steering with steering wheel where you expect it ;-) * Electrically driven winch in the front (like in 8297) but with 4.5V motor controlled from driver's seat. * Hinged hood. * Adjustable seats (also taken from 8865). * Full size spare wheel. Design considerations: * Used two 24x43 as one wheel to make them look like ballon tires (there were nothing like ballon tires in this time). I only have 6 of these tires in three different rim colors. In some pictures you see next to the white the gray and yellow rims. * High ground clearance and shape of underbody to be able to slide over big obstacles. * I wanted a electrically driven winch but the battery pack shouldn't be visible while in the car. I think this was the biggest problem and let me decide to not include any differntial gear and moving pistons. This was a very hard decission. * Almost complete bodywork :-D OK, at least I should have build a windshield. For a roof, I had not enough bricks. * For driving the winch with the 4.5V motor I used http://www.peeron.com/inv/parts/768 from 872 to have a good reduction of the motor speed and also have good power on the rope. Nice story: At first I tried to insert new batteries, but the motor didn't work. After I've disassembled the whole car (what was needed to get to the motor) I tried again, and the motor has turned a little in one direction. After using it a little it also turned in the other direction again. I was very happy that my motor was still running :-) From my memory I would say the winch had a great power, but after over 20 years in the attic I think the inside of the motor oxidized and loosed a lot of power.
