Here is my build of Jörgen Andersson’s DAT file of a Russian T34 tank. This build was great fun and I thought I’d share some comments and facts on the project: Parts Source & Costs: 1. Toy Brick Brigade, $38.21, this was the bulk of the parts 2. PitsCo, $38, this was three (3) packs of 50 each tread links 3. Pherrit & Son, $1.76, the finishing touch on the project There are quite a few nice tank projects to tackle, but this seemed real straight forward for a beginner like me. The parts are pretty standard and readily available. Comments: The 1x5 technic plat that holds the front and rear idlers conflicts with the next pair of road wheels. I ended up removing the belt from the two inner technic pulleys and this seems to work fine. The alignment of the road wheels is slightly askew, but not enough to unthread the tracks. The tread link count is 142, or 71 per side. I used 69 links per. 68 will work, but doesn’t provide enough play for the treads to drape over the top of the wheels. The turret doesn’t rotate. I’ve played around and added a 4x4 turntable and the height increases by one plate thickness. Not a big deal. My final build uses the stationary gun mount like the DAT file. I wasn’t able to confirm if any T34’s were produced like the German Stugs, but I’m pretty sure I’ve seen some stationary gun mounts on T34s. I want to thank Jörgen again for sharing his DAT file with the community. I never seem to find enough time to create much of my own anymore, but building a quality model is just as good for me.
