"Innie" is for studs in. "Outie" is for studs out.

It is possible to build an octagon at any desired (even number) side length, brick it inside (or outside) to another layer of click hinge bricks.

The new click hinge plates align as shown in "Outie-Close". The older hinge plates (3-finger to 2-finger) also align.
