After looking at David Wegmullers modified 8421 I decided to make the same improvements to my newly bought 8421. The first picture shows the boom increased in length by 8 studs, more in scale to the body of the crane. In order to make the extension of the boom work I had to move the attachment points of the boom string; the lower run-around is moved up by 8 studs and the attachment to the third boom is also moved up by 8 studs. The second picture shows the boom raised as steep as possible, due to moved attachment points of the cylinders. The third picture shows the new lower attachment of the 4 cylinders, nothing fancy, and some of the hoses. I switched the hoses from the pump and the cylinders and added a third hose, plugged with an antenna. The air now gently flows out through a hole in the hose made by a needle. It takes about 10 second for the boom to lower, when not extended or loaded. The fourth picture shows the boom fully extended. Note the extra beams added to the third boom. The original third boom was too thin for my taste. Most of the modifications are made of 25 year old pieces, from the time before my dark ages. Thanks to you David for showing us your ideas! /onebigmob @chello.se
