Original design of the swans: Martin Jaspers a.k.a. Marakoeschtra. 
I feel there is no better way to make these than the way he did, so I copied his idea :-)

The idea to use plates in stead of bricks came from Sjors van Klink  (well that's where I saw it the first time),
he uses this all over his excellent city hall building.
