The Zeta Wing was developed just 2 years into the clonewars. The ship was used in the great Jedi purch, where small groups of Zeta wings (or Z's as they are sometimes called) were deployed by Republic militairy transporters and assigned to destroy settlements or convoys. 

The main weapon is the large dish, which focuses the beams generated by the 4 small lasers on eachside. The center dish concentrates and aimes the combined beams and the result is a high focused ray which will destroy anything from large freighters to subterreanian bases. 

The pilot is, as common during the clone wars, a specialised clone. The Clone sits in a controll pod, which can detach and fligh on it's own. Small repulsor engines at the back provide thrust, while a small laserdish sits at the front. 

At the bottom of the ship, a small robotic turret is locked into position by a mechanic system. When the control pod is launched and the dish is in orbit (for instance, in a defensive mission) the turret detaches and protects the dish from any approaching threats or pirats. Unfortunatly, a focused radio beam and disable the firing mechanism, leaving the dish relativly unprotected. 

The 2 large engines at the back of the Zeta Wing provides great control and speed, ideal when pursuing fleeing vessels or navigating a mine field. Although they are superious in strength compared to any other craft of this size, an additional boost vessel is needed to jump to hyperspace.

The ships were manufactured in a Kuat space dock in orbit of Malastar, until the CoIS (the  "separists") succesfully managed to sabotage the dock and simaltaniously destroy a cloning facility on Bogden, where the pilots were created. The ship was then replaced by a larger attackboat.
