RollerMecha-- this just started out as a dorky idea to combine gigantic robots with roller derby. why? because everything can be made cooler with mecha. or monkeys. although in this case, I don't think monkey roller derby would achieve the desired effect. (tonight! it's a no-holds-barred grudge match on wheels between the Sinians and the Killer Kapuchins! who will take the win? or the bananas?) ...anyway, I figured adding a story to it would be rather cool. fast forward humanity a few hundred years. overpopulation and new travel capabilities lead humans to find the now ancient island of Mata Nui and the mysterious city beneath. these humans quickly learn that the wildlife is not only rather unfriendly, but HUGE. in response, they build enclosed, rahi-free cities and learn to use the powers contained in the giant masks scattered about the island. scouts and later, archaeologists, find the walls of prophesy and history amongst the ruins of the original inhabitant's villages and use what was left behind to create functional mecha to tame the rahi, work the land, and guard the cities. as a nod to the previous residents, these early mecha were called Tactical Oversized Assistance units, or TOA for short. (yeah, I had to put in a lame acronym.) Go a bit further forward into the future and Mata and Metru Nuva, as they are now called, flourish. mecha are still abundant, but also play a more domestic role as entertainment. slap some wheels on 'em, get a few angry, driven girls to pilot 'em, and voila, Giant Robot Roller Derby. The rules are rather loose, only prohibiting certain masks such as the Vahi for obvious reasons, as well as certain Zamor spheres, Rhotuka (we like our rollergirls the way they are--unmutated.) and Kanoka. since the Makuta is nowhere to be found, Kraata, as rare as they are now, can be used, but are usually kept away from Kanohi due to rapid tarnishing of the mask by a compound secreted by the Kraata. excessive incendiary devices are looked down upon simply because it's costly to repair the track, the mecha, and the pilot on the business end of said devices. otherwise, any other weaponry is allowed on the robots. proportions of the mecha are regulated, each mech only allowed to have a maximum width of a third of the 100 yard-wide track, and a height restriction of 120 feet. most mecha don't reach these heights due to the fact that the venues they play have a lot less overhead clearance. mecha don't posess toa or elemental energy, but do posess a certain amount of power from the kanohi as well as manmade peripherals, such as Berlin Wall's ability to create force fields for a brief period of time. Bolshe Vixen's acces to Hammer Space is an innate ability of hers that she can channel through the mech to access bigger and more dangerous hammers. matches are filmed and televised throughout the islands, and it's not uncommon to see people taking bets on the robots.
