I've been a fan of the Wipeout series of Sony Playstation games for quite some time - actually that's why I got a Playstation in the first place - the need for high velocity anti-gravity racing - yeah! The whole series is based in the future where mega corporations sponsor anti-gravity racing around the world. Great racing, pounding Techno soundtracks and slick graphic design by the Designers Republic are halmarks of the series. As a long time lego builder I mainly create differnt types of spacecraft but one afternoon I decided to build a wipeout style racer. It wasn't long before the Schraf Boxer was born. Technically it's smaller than a Wipeout racer should be but I was pleased with it's overall design especially the cockpit design and the recently modified flaps/vanes/air-brakes. The Secom racer came along next because I wanted a full-sized craft. Mostly a "biggie sized" version of the Schraf, a few modifications stand out - the more practical air-brakes and the hard weapons mounts on either side of the cockpit. In the game, the racers pick up differnet types of weapons from targets on the track. The Schraf actually has two pylon mounted pods that wih a little imagination could be replaced during flight. The Secom isn't as versitile in that respect. As in the game each craft has differnet attributes. The Schraf is light, very quick and dangerously manuverable. The Secom is heavier, tougher, quick for it's size and very very fast. Unfortunately my imaging capabilities suck. Basically I'm using a video camera plugged into a 5 year old video capture card. So the pictures I have of these craft don't show the level of detail I would prefer to show. Such is life. However with some of the recent mention and posting of racing craft I figured it was time to get something - anything online :) Anyway, thanks for your time! If you have any comments you can e-mail them to me at trs13@sffn.com Hopefully someday in the future when I get a real digital camera I will be able to post pictures of my 20+ spacecraft ... scary - thinking about it, most of my spacecraft were inspired by another video game - Wing Commander. So most of them are dogfighting ships though the universe they inhabit is more like the Privateer universe... Think mercanaries, asteroid miners, smugglers, a cargo craft or two but mostly "I'm gonna get you sucka" starfighters :) And a mech... well, two ... I'll leave those for the people who obviously have more talent for creating them! T.R. Sammis 3-28-01 P.S. Drat... now I'll have to get a PS2 for the upcoming Wipeout Fusion http://ps2.ign.com/previews/14441.html -- Well, God give them wisdom that have it; and those that are fools, let them use their talents. -- trs13@sffn.com http://www.sffn.com
