willgrahamcracker2013:
this has to mean something right?
or maybe im crazy
Both scenes are depicting Will’s death. He died in that kitchen, a part of him was gutted. We saw the stag die there, and Abigail. Hannibal killed the superficial aspect that tied them to each other, and aborted out of Will the lies. Will, prior to Mizumono, was still in denial about himself, “the wrong thing being the right thing to do was too ugly a thought”. Only after he revives from that that he faces the truth, “I wanted to run away with him”. He had to go through a process of rebirth after Mizumono, searching for Hannibal, facing himself, facing Hannibal in order to face himself, and he still decided to shut his true self out. So in Wrath, we see the image mirrored because it is his true death. He’s not alone on the floor now, he’s on the arms of love and truth and acceptance. They’re both death scenes, but one is death of illusion, the other is death of shame. In one he dies alone, by clutching to his illusions. In the other, he dies willingly, clutching to the only truth.
Will being OCD makes so much sense, it's crazy that we never considered it as much as all other mental disorders, thank you for pointing that possibility out!!
The sad truth is that it’s not considered because a lot of thoughts have been normalized, like feeling paranoid that you are bad and will be punished, that god is judging and watching you etc. Religious people think this is not only normal but expected. This is just a pathology. It’s an illness that needs treatment and unfortunately society has normalized this. So we don’t see OCD as more than the person obsessed with cleaning, and that whole stereotype.
Will is not only OCD with morality, but his alcohol addiction is also a part of an OCD behavior. Addiction functions, in certain parts of the cycle, as obsession. Unfortunately that wasn’t as explored on the show, but I think it was clear from the subtext (also I think in the book it’s a lot more obvious).
thedeathofthelamb:
random ass headcanons that I have based solely on vibes:
- Will has a very subtle addition to masturbation and porn. “He hates porn he’s a little empathetic baby mimi” first of all, unless the porn people are killers, I think he should be fine since he doesn’t empathize with anyone except killers and those he projects on lol. Idk okay? My man exudes cis male who watches weird shit and jacks off to try and get out of his mind. His porn search history is probably kinky af. But also very heteronormative because come onnn, he needs to relax, not have more compulsive thoughts about how perverse he thinks he is lol.
- Hannibal occasionally goes to bdsm clubs. And he might take a collared date (pre-canon ofc).
- Hannibal never thought he’d get married but in his mind, if he were to, it’d be a woman exactly like Bedelia, and they’d have a very open relationship, go to swing houses, have all sorts of indulgent and kinky stuff. He wouldn’t be passionately in love but they would be each other’s loyal companion and would have cultured and kinky fun.
- Same for Will, but he never imagined Molly, to him, if he ever got the miracle of marriage it would be some veeeeery conventionally attractive girl, who looks younger than him, is a kindergarten teacher or a nurse or some shit. Also not passionate but tons of sex. Maybe some home videos. They’d fuck late at night on the couch with a lifetime movie in the back.
- Hannibal does likes animals but hates feeling tethered physically but also emotionally because pets need you and die, and H avoids connection out of fear so I think that’s why he never considered a pet.
- Hannibal has had many twinks.
- Will likes to fuck women doggy. Vibes: struggling with his sexuality and not having to look at their faces makes it easier.
- Will would like to fuck H missionary.
- Will would cum from giving H head for the first time. Like. The implications, the vibes of it all would just blow him up.
I love realistic theories (those are theories to me, not headcanons because headcanons might go for completely random things just because a fan likes the idea, andvthese are very realistic) that remember that Will, especially, is a cis male in his 40’s.
Will being addicted to self pleasure is something I can easily picture. Alone in that weird bed of his, unable to fall asleep, feeling like crap, his phone’s lights on his face and he just touches himself to some girl getting railed hardcore style. It’s such a scene they’d have on the show if it weren’t for censoring.
The marriage one is also easy to picture. In his safe fantasies, he’d never be in love, but he would picture a brunette with big boobs and a very feminine type of personality, that cliche “written by a man”, “cool girl” type who fucks like a porn star, drinks beer and has a job considered noble. Makes sense for him as someone who believes himself to be bad. A normal, pretty, good girl loving him would be validation for him feeling like he isn’t actually bad. The only problem is that came true is that he’d be a raging alcoholic in this relationship lol. He’d also get weird during sex and she’d feel hurt and scared.
You really project a 'daddy dom' stereotype onto Will Graham. Which is fine everyone has their own preferences, but you have so much vitriol for the people who soften the character/emphasize his gentler traits.
i just need you to have an ounce of self awareness; your head canons are no more true than anyone else's. Starting all of your "analysis" posts anticipating arguments ("...everyone gets this wrong... even the people who made the show... i am the only one who gets it" etc..) is lame I'm afraid.
thedeathofthelamb:
aww, no one cares, I’m afraid. but it’s incredibly funny that you think I do or would change how I make my posts because of your ridiculous take. also, no one takes anon rants seriously, I mean you can’t even own your own opinions, and need to hide. also you couldn’t be more wrong about the daddy dom, so bonus points for your useless opinion since you lack critical thinking skills but actually I will change: I will now be overly “lame” in every analysis thanks, I adore pissing off people who get pissed off by ridiculous things
I suggest you find a moment of self-awareness, “anon”, and notice how petty and embarrassing it is to complain over trivial differences in headcanons or analyses. Instead of whining because someone’s interpretation challenges your own beliefs, perhaps try to be a functional human and simply move on. Or, if it truly bothers you so deeply, consider seeking psychological support because being triggered over someone else’s headcanon is truly a bizarre hill to die on.
Welcome back, 👑! I am glad to see you are active again <3 seriously, the amount of serotonin I get when I see a post is matchless

Hi milk,
Just wanted to say that I'm happy you're partially back. I really miss your Hannibal analysis but I understand why you mostly quit.
But I also have a question:
How did you come to your username?
-🍄
Hi! Oh it’s because of the Red Dragon and because milk is nourishing and I wanted my essays to be food for this fandom 🥛❤️
How do you feel when you come back in this website?
Btw I miss you and your Hannibal essays I hope your having a nice day :)
Ah it’s soso. I come and see some nonsense, but also pretty things, and funny things. But I am not coming here as often as before. Hope your week goes well and lovely 🌼.
What is your take on the timeline of Anthony Dimmond? The whole season moves so quickly, I don't have a good sense if *Meet--"Untwist"--Murder* all happen in 2 days or 2 months.
Oh. I never thought about it. I always assumed it was meet (a month or so) then untwist (a few days) then murder. Season three is very weird with time, on purpose. All I know is that a year passed when we see Hannibal in the first episode, according to Bryan. And if I’m not mistaken Will takes 8 months to recover. It’s all very murky.
thedeathofthelamb:
Oh, I’d like to talk about this.
Hannibal’s relationship with consent seems to be driven less by external social norms and more by his internal sense of aesthetics and personal mythos. In the world he has created for himself, “consent” is not tied to moral imperatives. Instead, it’s an aesthetic and relational ideal.
He seems to see desire as something to be cultivated, not demanded or forced outright. In sexual matters, he likely finds coercion to be inelegant, he wants to be wanted, and so he would consider true desire (even if he manipulates it) as the ultimate form of “consent.” For him, sexual violence would be an aesthetic failure because it signifies that he did not succeed in making himself an object of authentic desire.
But, beyond sex his notion of consent is amorphous, maybe even non-existent. He does not value the integrity of another’s will or mind because he sees himself as the ultimate arbiter of meaning. He sees his manipulations not as violations but as acts of creation: he’s sculpting, refining, guiding someone towards their “true” self (at least as he sees it).
And Hannibal’s love for Will is expressed as a desire to break him open and remake him. He believes that Will’s “true self” is waiting to be liberated from social conventions. In his mind, the manipulations and violations he performs on Will, psychological, emotional, physical, are not coercive but revelatory. He doesn’t conceptualize these acts as violations because he does not see Will’s existing self as authentic or complete. Will’s resistance is part of the dance; to Hannibal, it is not “non-consent” but a sign of the layers that must be peeled away.
So sexually consent to him is aesthetic triumph: being desired is the highest expression of his seduction. Psychologically consent is irrelevant because he’s “liberating” the other, not violating them.
In his worldview consent is not a moral necessity but an aesthetic ideal, and violation is only ugly if it is graceless or if it fails to produce beauty or transformation.
This is, of course, entirely from within Hannibal’s own perspective. He lives in a hall of mirrors, where all definitions are recast to reflect his own mythic self-image.
your milk(shake) brings all the fannibals to the yard.
sorry. I love rotten meat and your analyses.
thank you! ahahahaha 🕺 🥛 💃
Hi! I saw your reblog on the poll post about Hannibal’s opinions on consent— I wanted to say thanks for putting how I’ve always thought of his view on it into words in such a succinct and elegant way that I’ve never really been able to articulate, lol. The fact that you mentioned that he wants to be wanted in terms of intimacy, romance and sex and disregards consent otherwise as he sees fit is so important to me because it makes sense with his drastic reality of being lonely and feeling hollow while also prioritizing control and not truly connecting with most others. Hannibal and Will both have very complicated relationships with intimacy (ha). He does have human needs, that’s why the show went the way it did at all, he just deals with them in purposefully inhuman and inhumane ways. Non-sexual metaphors of sex in the show are so prevalent! And that makes a lot of sense combined with this view of his view of consent. True union and genuine desire creates vulnerability, there is safety and the mask of aesthetics in only the allusions to it. And for a man whose life is so centered around hunger and the filling of empty spaces, the fact that desire is more potent when it’s not yet satisfied is doubly true. He does like the chase. Hope my epistolatory ask isn’t too much— love your meta!! 🫶
Not too much at all! I love diving into Hannibal’s mind, trying to make sense of what doesn’t make sense in the normal world. We’re always bound to find perspectives that makes us ponder about ourselves, instead of simply judging or being appalled. His elegance is strange and cruel, but boy is it intriguing!
Will’s obsession with Hannibal and his inability to quit him are analogous to the compulsive nature of drug addiction. In this essay I will—
Milk do you think Fuller chose an actress who wasn't attractive on purpose as Molly? Not to shit on Nina, she's objectively not conventionally attractive, but she's also not Will's type (considering Alana whom he was actively trying to get with and according to Dancy was very interested in).
I am pretty sure he chose her because of the dynamic she had with Hugh Dancy on Venus in Furs. But regarding Will and Molly, yes, I think the intention was to show there was no heat/passion there, taking into account that they deleted all of the more intimate interactions between them from the final cut.
Will would never choose, at that point, anything that ignited a flame in him. Molly was mourning and so was Will, that’s why they bonded. That and I suppose lifestyle similarities.
Was there a song Will played or sang for Mia as a little kid? <3 -🥠
offspringofmadness:
Will used to sing Unforgettable by Nat King Cole to Mia when she was little and couldn’t sleep. There was this one night, winter scratching at the windows like an old cat, and Mia fussing in his arms, her eyes too bright for sleep. He was tired, so very tired, but he walked the narrow rooms with her clutched to his chest, the lamplight low and wavering in the corners, his voice soft and a little hoarse from the cold that was creeping into his bones.
He had to be up early…work waited, indifferent to his sleepless nights and the small weight of her in his arms. But he kept moving, kept singing in a voice that was more breath than melody. His head felt hot, and he knew he was getting sick, the fever a slow ache behind his eyes, but he never let her see that. He only brushed his lips against her soft hair, murmured nonsense in a low hush, and tried to let his warmth fill the cold that lay in every corner of the house.
The floorboards creaked under his slow steps, and the hush of the snow outside seemed to fold around them, wrapping them in a cocoon of winter stillness. He would pause every so often, pressing her closer, feeling the soft weight of her against his chest, and then start moving again, the song still on his lips. There was something beautiful in that, his exhaustion, his tenderness, the quiet vow he kept weaving with every note, every step in that cold, quiet house.
milk what were the most challenging moments Will had as a single dad?
offspringofmadness:
Well, there were those first few months after Mia was born that were pure hell, no other way to put it. Newborns are fragile things, all skin and milk and feverish crying, and Mia seemed to catch every little cold that drifted through the winter air. Will was terrified. He lived in a constant state of watchfulness, ears tuned to her breathing even in the rare moments she slept. He swore he could hear the catch in her breath from across the room.
Then there was the matter of taking her to work. He never wanted to leave her with anyone else, couldn’t bring himself to trust anyone with her tiny, drowsy weight. Mia, for her part, refused to go to anyone else anyway. So he’d carry her, bundled in soft layers, to whatever job he had lined up (he had to take a leave from the field work ofc so he was fixing up things at that time), working with one hand and cradling her with the other, always half-aware of the warmth of her head on his chest.
The worst, though, was when he would fall sick himself, those fevers that turned his body to lead, the bone-deep aches that would have laid him out if he’d had the luxury. But he didn’t. He still had to cook for her, bathe her, change her and soothe her to sleep. He did it all because he couldn’t bear the thought of her needing something and him not being there to give it.
She was a good kid, though, always was. So quiet, so strangely attuned to the hush of things. When he was sick, she wouldn’t ask for anything. As she grew, she learned to reach the cabinets on her own. She’d pour herself a bowl of cereal and eat it without complaint, never asking for more than he could give. It was something he held on to, that quiet understanding of hers, that gentleness. It’s what got him through those nights when the fever burned and the world outside was nothing but wind and ice.
Curious to know what rotten meat Will does when he wants to reprimand Mia 👀
offspringofmadness:
When she was little, he didn’t, he couldn’t. She was so quiet, so gentle, that there never seemed to be a need. He’d watch her, the sort of gaze that saw everything and missed nothing, and she would melt under that, no need for words or punishments.
But things changed as she grew. She became feistier, testing the edges of their strange little world, and that’s when the looks started. Will had a way of glancing at her that could still her in her tracks, that flicker of disapproval in his eyes enough to set her heart to trembling.
When looks no longer held her in place, he turned to his voice. A low tone that cut through the room like a knife. He never shouted, not really, but the weight of that voice was enough to bend the air around them.
If that, too, failed, he would reach for her arm, fingers digging in just enough to remind her who he was.
The final recourse, the one that left the air in the house brittle and cold, was the denial of affection. That was how he truly punished her, by turning away, by withholding the warmth she’d grown to crave. He would lock her in her bedroom, yes, but it was the absence of his touch, the absence of those murmured words at night, that cut the deepest.
The argument of whether Abigail was a ghost or a projection is limiting. When viewed through a metaphysical lens, we see that time itself is nonlinear everywhere except in material reality. This theme of temporal nonlinearity recurs throughout season three. In the process of dying, what many understand as the afterlife is not a distinct place, but a trance state, a timeless experience induced by chemicals in the brain. Consciousness in this state can encounter their mind’s ideas of heaven, hell, or hauntings.
When a haunting is perceived, it appears to occur after death in the material realm, yet in actuality, it unfolds in the dying moment. Consciousness becomes less tethered to the physical world, magnetizing itself to a place or a person, a point of attachment. A ghost, then, is both an echo of a spirit and a projection of the mind. The astral realm is shaped by the subconscious; a thousand psychics might enter the same haunted house, each encountering something different, yet each experience remains real. In the astral, everything becomes malleable, shaped by the viewer’s perception. They tune into a particular frequency, Abigail, for instance, and in the absence of material evidence, the mind fills in the gaps. So, it is simultaneously a ghost and a projection.

bringing my super autistic pattern recognition powers by judging you based on your favorite Will Graham:
Season one wet dog fish cabin unwell Will: you are trans, you want to look like that specific brand of Will, you mimic Hugh’s enunciation to try to sound like him, you are an intellectual, you are young (younger than 25), you probably live with your parents or with a rommate who is very similar to you in personality or taste, you are american, you want to be funny/constantly making jokes, you are the “I don’t fit in” type of autistic, you have some specific skill (maybe drawing, maybe tech), you play an instrument, you have fits of histeria when you see photos/videos of Hugh or Mads (the gen z hand thing where you pretend to eat your fist).

hey now ☝️
In this episode of having seriously unserious fun psychoanalyzing Will Graham: why was he so eager for Abigail’s validation? Why did he crave to be perceived by her as a protector and traditional father figure?
Will’s yearning to be seen as Abigail Hobbs’ protector isn’t rooted in paternal love or selfless care. It’s an instinct born from his own ceaseless fear, a projection of his inner child, tainted by the suspicion that he himself is bad, monstrous, or corrupted. In Abigail, he recognizes not the girl herself, but a reflection of his own innocence under siege: her vulnerability mirroring his own. She becomes a token, an externalized emblem of the child he still feels he is.
This isn’t an overt or conscious calculation. Rather, it’s an unconscious compulsion. If Abigail chooses him, even for a moment, it suspends Will’s own fear, he feels safe by becoming safety, if only in that fleeting instant. Yet because this drive is ultimately about him, not her, it generates a profound dissonance. Abigail feels it: the disquiet of being seen not as herself, but as a screen for someone else’s need. She senses the forced nature of his attempts, how they skip the slow dance of mutual trust and instead leap straight into an anxious claim of “I’ll keep you safe. I am father.” Like hello who are you sir?
This dynamic poisons their connection before it can begin. Will’s efforts don’t resonate as natural or earned; they feel like an imposition, a strange intensity that can’t be reciprocated. Beneath the surface, she can tell she’s not truly being seen, she’s being used to soothe a fear that doesn’t even belong to her. And so his attempts, though well-meaning on the surface, become hollow performances that fail to bridge the gap between them.
This dynamic of projecting one’s own fear and vulnerability onto another in order to feel powerful or safe extends well beyond Will. It’s a pattern visible in the archetype of the “mama bear,” particularly in women who self-proclaim loudly and repeatedly that they’d do anything to protect their children (in a strange way that isn’t just motherly behavior but an identity signaling, like the “boy mom” phenomenon).
When these declarations come unprompted, boastful claims of “no one touches my kid” or “I’d kill for my child”, they reveal this pattern. They’re not just affirmations of love; they’re a way of masking a personal sense of weakness, fear, or powerlessness. In many cases, this is especially pronounced in women who have been in abusive relationships, single mothers, or who carry a sense of having been made small by their past. The child, then, becomes a token, an innocent, untouchable symbol of the self they couldn’t protect.
The paradox is that this fierce posturing doesn’t truly serve the child; it serves the parent’s need to dissociate from their own fear and claim an identity of strength they otherwise struggle to inhabit. The child becomes a proxy for safety and value: “If I can protect you, I must be strong.”
The child is no longer a child, they’re a totem for someone else’s fight with their own vulnerability.

just wondering when we’re gonna talk about this cultural panic within Gen Z around young-looking women’s sexual expression particularly the shaming of women accused of “encouraging pedophilia” through a so-called “Lolita aesthetic" and trace the ideological roots of this backlash, and how it paradoxically intensifies patriarchal control over women’s sexuality and yet again shifts the focus and responsibility of problems from the perpetrators and abusers to women. just wondering.
Saw girls saying that Sabrina Carpenter is “setting us back” ???
The accusation that women “set feminism back” by playing into some archetype reflects a misunderstanding: it blames women for the projection of men’s desires, rather than holding those men accountable for their own actions and fantasies.
Repression in the name of controlling men’s reactions is, historically, a patriarchal demand itself. It echoes the idea that women must constantly manage men’s behavior, rather than men managing themselves. This is a distortion of agency and a misunderstanding of how desire operates.
Husband Will makes me unwell, Lamb. Every time I see him with that ring in season three 👹 but why? I need to be psychoanalyzed
thedeathofthelamb:
something something triangulation
From a Lacanian perspective, desire is structured around the Other not the actual person, but the symbolic role or position they occupy. So desire is fundamentally “the desire of the Other,” meaning it arises in relation to the Other’s desire and the ways that desire is structured through language, culture, and symbolic order.
When someone is married, their status as “unavailable” is part of that symbolic order. The fact that they’re desired or claimed by another creates a scenario where their desirability is amplified: it becomes a signifier of worth, of allure. In Lacanian terms, the married person can be seen as a kind of objet petit a, the elusive object-cause of desire that can never fully be possessed. It’s not the person themselves that’s truly desired, but the fantasy or lack that they represent.
The presence of the spouse or partner becomes the third term that triangulates desire: it’s through this triangulation that the desire is sustained and intensified. This also ties into Lacan’s idea that desire is not direct, but always mediated by the desire of the Other so if a married person is desired by their spouse, that “desire of the Other” acts as a beacon, making the married person more desirable to a third party.
In this way, desire for married people can be seen as a structural effect, rather than a moral failing or personal quirk. It’s a reflection of how desire itself always plays in the field of the Other, in the symbolic matrix that holds us in place. The married person becomes an actor in that symbolic scene, and their status as “claimed” adds a charge, a mystery, or a prohibition that fuels the fantasy.

thedeathofthelamb:
Will’s Empathy Might Something Else.
The capacity to empathize, especially when it shows up as mirroring (which Will does and it’s confirmed on the scripts), can stem from a defense mechanism rooted in the fear of rejection or abandonment. Empathy might not necessarily be about “feeling with” the other in a pure sense, but rather about detecting, and adapting to, and mimicking others in order to remain safe, accepted, or invisible. It’s not conscious, and it’s not manipulative, it’s a form of survival intelligence, hence why in the script he seems to do it mostly (not always) accidentally.

“I was trying to save Will from you” WOMAN WHO THE FUCK ARE YOU EVEN?!?!
Not hating on Alana but god I do hate how much Alana and Jack infantilize Will. Treating him like a fragile teacup just as Hannibal said, acting as if he needs being “saved” and “fixed”, as if he’s “broken”.
While Hannibal sees all those “broken pieces” as a different design and loves Will for them.
Hannibal as a metaphor for how men (Will) are treated as guiltless babies incapable of controlling their impulses while women (Hannibal) take the blame for everything?
“You’ve got Will in those moral dignity pants…Nothing is his fault.”

fics where we see how constantly nauseous Hannibal gets due to his overly sensitive nose
This really adds to Hannibal’s foods, don’t you think? I mean, I think he wouldn’t stand the smell of fried things, for example. Makes sense that he’d be naturally inclined towards more “refined” meals, since those tend to have less condiments that exude strong scent.
Astonishing that Will Graham was never prescribed anything. I personally would have tried at least some lithium.
esocherryk:
If you struggle to create, maybe this is why.
There exists a particular kind of intelligence: natural, intuitive, and attuned. These individuals aren’t just “smart” in the conventional sense; they perceive the underlying mechanisms of the world with clarity. They see patterns where others see noise. They understand not just what is said, but what is behind what is said…the structure, the intention, the psychological scaffolding.
At first glance, this seems like a gift, especially in creative or intellectual contexts. But in practice, it often feels like a curse. Because when such people encounter most of what is produced, be it books, films, lectures, or general discourse, they don’t see brilliance or originality. They see mediocrity disguised as profundity. They see the same basic ideas repackaged with elaborate language, ornamented just enough to pass as sophisticated in the eyes of the majority.
To the highly intelligent, much of modern content, especially so-called intellectual or educational material, feels hollow. Not because they don’t understand it, but because there is simply nothing there to understand. It is basic, obvious information, dressed up in complex phrasing to appear deep. And while this works on most audiences, who are impressed by style and density, the highly intelligent often feel alienated. They are not fooled by form.
But this leads to a paradox: because they find these works incomprehensible, not due to complexity, but due to the absence of actual substance, they begin to doubt themselves. They think, “If everyone else is impressed and I am not, perhaps I am missing something.” They internalize this as a personal failure. The irony is that the more intelligent they are, the more likely they are to question their own understanding when something lacks sense, rather than assume the fault lies in the content.
This self-doubt can become paralyzing. These individuals often struggle to create, not due to lack of capacity, but because they refuse to produce something that isn’t meaningful. Their standards are high, not out of arrogance, but out of respect for depth. Meanwhile, others with far less to say feel no such inhibition, and so the cultural landscape becomes flooded with confident mediocrity…while true originality remains hidden in hesitation.
What’s particularly painful is the realization that most people are not concerned with depth. They are satisfied with complexity of form, mistaking it for complexity of thought. The highly intelligent see this clearly, but they cannot bring themselves to emulate it. They do not want to lie, not to others, and not to themselves. And in this refusal, they often exile themselves from systems that reward performance over perception.
And perhaps the cruellest part is that many of them never realize that what isolates them, what makes the world seem incoherent and shallow, is precisely their intelligence. Not the lack of it.
thedeathofthelamb:
the fantasy that Hannibal provides for a lot of viewers is the fantasy of being worthy of being seen. the problem is that the characters are gorgeous, intelligent, hot and powerful. so we remain in that aching place of thinking that we need to be worthy of being seen. we gotta earn it. by being beautiful or intelligent or powerful. hence why so many fans are either obsessed with looking like Will, or being Hannibal, so they try to emulate mannerisms or involve themselves in lots of intellectual pursuits in an empty attempt to be worthy of being seen. loved. consumed.

Do you have any other interests besides Hannibal?
You mean in media? I suppose it’s pretty obvious that I have an interest in psychology, metaphysics and philosophy haha but if you mean other medias then currently Hannibal is the main brain worm. I used to have more patience to hold more than one obsession at a time when I was younger, now not so much, it seems.
Can I make a request? I would love to hear your take on ER surgeon Hannibal and also as mentor (to Alana perhaps). How do you imagine his co-workers saw him, what he showed of himself to them and etc? Thanks in advance and sorry for bothering :)
All smiles and nods, eyes wrinkling above his mask covered lips as a nurse enters the room. The gentleman, the sweetly intimidating doctor Lecter. They all want him, to be him, to be under his touch, through a scalpel or in bed. His gaze is addictive, his praise is the high. Whoever’s jealous doesn’t have the courage to show, he’s respected as if he were the god of the hospital. The good doctor Lecter, so handsome, so skillful, so interesting, so strange, so kind. Someone notices something, not enough to put him in risk but close enough for comfort, so he seduces them, they fall for it, he collects affairs, broken hearts. He can’t help but seduce, even when he hates the object that is seduced by him, he still cannot bring himself to be anything but seductive. Was probably pleased with Alana, not because she’s inherently interesting or impressive, but because she’s generally attractive, not intelligent in his level but enough to ask interesting questions, and flirtatious. He loves to flirt. Can’t resist it.
thedeathofthelamb:
don’t worry darling AU where Hannibal traps Will in a 50s househusband dream in his mind palace
Will waking him up with a blowjob and breakfast in bed, packing up his work lunch naked in the kitchen, dancing and drinking white wine at nine in the morning, would take him ages to figure out he’s stuck inside his mind because what a dream
1) I am so sorry for using you as a sort of "Hannibal Wikipedia" or something, but I trust your opinion the most for analysis and such.
2) What is your take on Beverly as a character? Do you think her death was unnecessary, and could she have helped Will if Hannibal had kept her alive?
(again sorry and also if that has already been discussed <3)
Like all female characters on the show, Beverly unfortunately doesn’t have much depth, so it’s hard to truly analyze her in the narrative. Because at the end of the day, she served the same purpose as the others: just a device to further male characters.
Her death was technically necessary cause she found out about Hannibal so what else would they do? Of course it made zero sense since no one would do what she did alone. That was completely stupid and contradicts the character as a highly intelligent person.
Could she have helped Will? Depends on what you mean by help. Help him get out of prison and frame Hannibal? Yes, had she called someone to come along or at the VERY least told someone exactly where she was going or left them on the phone while there (so many possibilities 🤦♀️). But helped Will in general? No, only Hannibal was able to do that because he was the only one that saw Will.
Also, thank you so much for your trust in my analysis and you’re never bothering <3
So, based off the show, we know a fair amount about the way Hannibal views his victims. I don't think Will shares his mindset, exactly, but likely has a lot in common with it simply due to how intertwined their behaviors are.
I was curious: How would you say Will views his victims? (In the show's canon and/or post-TWotL).
PS, it's so good to see you around and posting again! :) 🌹
Cool question! I think we see a little bit of that in canon. Will has a righteous type of profile. I wouldn’t say he’s a vigilante but he definitely has some of those qualities. Now, whether that’s only because he feels less guilty targeting the “bad guys” is a whole different story.
I think there’s a reason why Will admired the Ripper in a way, and I believe it’s because they both dislike inelegance. Hannibal certainly has a lower tolerance, but Will seems to despise people who are crude, which to him seems like a type of abrasive behavior that lacks poetry or a sense of purpose that goes beyond the mundane.
If he followed his instincts he’d probably kill everyone hahaha! But I think if he was to choose, then he’d see his victims as unworthy of existence, as polluting reality in some way.
Hello milk, not sure if you answer this but I'm curious what kind of therapy does Hannibal use in his session? Same with Bedilia and Alana. Hope you understand what I'm saying :)
You mean their approach? There is a post here about that, yes, but only on Hannibal. I believe we came to the conclusion that Hannibal doesn’t use any specific approach, neither does he fall into a therapist category, and more so of a philosopher, that uses some of Jung’s framework.
Though I’d add Antonin Artaud (theater of cruelty), and a “perverse” reading of Lacan (desire as truth).
Bedelia goes for Lacan (language as the unconscious), Riviere (masking, identity), and Foucault (power disguised as care).
Alana has a more humanist psychology framework. But her arc shows how even the most “principled” frameworks collapse under proximity to chaos. Her psychology becomes political.
Why do you think Chiyoh pushed Will off the train? And why didn't she kill him when she shot him, if her goal was to protect Hannibal?
I don’t believe her goal was to protect Hannibal. If that was it, she would’ve done something more efficient to stop Will from going to him. She also didn’t do much when he got caught in the Verger’s estate, aside from helping when he already had helped himself. She’s more of like a hawk. Offers some help, but she won’t save your life.
When she pushed him off the train, she kissed him and told him there were other means of influence, but that he’d only understand violence. She used the kiss to distract him, showing just how blind Will can be when offered affection, how he trusts too much, lets his guard down, then pushed him to prove her point. Ultimately I believe she was trying to make his journey to Hannibal harder, so that he could see for himself if he truly wanted to move forward or not.
When she shot him, I think she was doing the same, but also for Hannibal. Trying to show the exact same thing: that he lets his guard down when offered affection, and that he shouldn’t.
I think her line is so important, tbh. I think it actually defines the entire show. You could influence through love, but some people will only understand violence. You can only get through them through violence. They’re so deprived of love that they cannot recognize it unless it is entangled with violence.
