ANY other kid is non-negotiable to him but if Will and Hannibal had a biological child, Hannibal would cry, shiver, throw up, and treat them like they’re the most precious living thing on earth. He’d even put them before himself, narcissistic ego identity be damned. Any other person? Abigail, Will and Margot’s kid? Whatever. But someone who’s a mix of both Will and Hannibal? He’d be obsessed with them. He’d teach them everything. He’d coddle them, get scolded by them. If you hurt them? You’re done. That child will be dressed like a crown jewel, and if you squint, you’ll see a tall, dark shadow standing behind them, staring back right at you.

Will, knows it’s not appropriate for him to approach Abigail but wanting to take care of her while maintaining decorum like a decent human being:

Hannibal, gaze yearning, gaslighting: but our daughter, Will. Are we not her fathers, Will? Who knows her better than her gay FATHERS, Will? Do you feel paternal, Will? Do you want to get a marriage license Wil—

Want to write hannigram,, send me tiny drabble prompts! (fair warning, i can only write what fits my style, please don’t feel bad if I don’t write what you send me;;)

Do you think he was ever in love with Bedelia like he was in love with Will? I ask this because Bedelia says they were both the "brides of Hannibal". But Hannibal never courted her like he did with Will, Bedelia came into Hannibal's life much before Will but he never pursued her like he did with Will.  Mads said he wanted a future with Will unlike with other people he hooked up with Alana, Bedelia or Anthony. He took her to Italy as a consolation prize when Will betrayed him. Even in Italy H was pining about Will all the time and telling Bedelia how much he loves Will.  I know he slept with Bedelia but he probably slept with Anthony too and he slept with Alana, Hannibal is a hedonistic guy who sleeps around. For him  sleeping with someone doesn't mean he is in love with them. But when Will confronts Bedelia, she pretends as if Hannibal held them in the same regard which is obviously not true. Hannibal would choose Will over her in a heart beat and even she knows it  but yet she acts as if Hannibal sees them both equally. I don't understand why? 😭 Why do you think?why make herself seem like a competition when she is not?

What do you think is Hannibal Lecter's net worth?

*deep inhale* okay. Let’s assume Hannibal is of celebrity status after his incarceration. I’m thinking, if someone were to make a true crime documentary show/movie about ‘Hannibal the Cannibal’, wouldn’t that earn them millions of dollars? I’m not from the west, I have no idea how much a dollar’s worth in the American economy so I’ll randomly say it earns them ~5-20 million usd. Let’s also consider the true crime podcasts, youtube essays/rhetorics, social media posts, blogs, news articles, academic publications, merchandise etc. None of this money’s going to him of course, but Hannibal’s worth probably ~30 million economically.

Can you already tell I haven’t studied economics past 10th grade? But in fannibals’ hearts, Hannibal’s worth billions anyway <3

tayasui-mono:

Actually my favourite Hannibal episode is “Su-zakana.” The horse episode?? The horse episode! We leave off previously on Will sending Matthew to murder Hannibal. Hannibal survives the attempt and now Will has to live with himself as this person who chose “killing” as an option while completely sober. Then he is in Hannibal’s office, planning to trap him, and to trap Hannibal he has to be somewhat honest so in-between his lies he’s forced to slip in confessions – like fantasizing about killing Hannibal with his bare hands and enjoying doing it. But not even that, my favourite ever moment is when Will tells Hannibal not to lie to him. It’s not a request– it’s a demand. He says “Don’t lie to me” to Hannibal as though Hannibal owes him this. (He doesn’t. Hannibal doesn’t owe anybody anything.) But Hannibal is so charmed and taken by Will, taken by Will demanding something from him because it indicates intimacy. I mean, you won’t make demands from strangers like it’s your birth right. You make demands from your parents, your best friends, your lover. You make demands from a god who betrayed you, wanting to forgive him. So Hannibal acquiesces. He asks, “Will you return the favour?” And Will doesn’t confirm, even so, Hannibal gives it to him, he gifts Will his honesty and stops lying to him from then on – even when Will betrays him. Hannibal doesn’t break his promises. It’s all so, it’s so erotic. For someone like Hannibal to give anyone anything when it’s demanded from him. It was the first interaction between them that left me breathless.

What do you believe Hannibal thinks about pop, hip hop and country music genres?

I like to think Hannibal would listen to anything melodramatic, but he would scoff at how rudimentary modern non-classical music is simply because of its length. It’d be like asking an established novelist to write instagram poetry. Still, there are gems who are also instagram poets, but in that case, he’s have to come across them serendipitously. He would never seek them out – wouldn’t even know how to or want to, or need to to be honest.

Hannibal is such a baby trapper. He tried to trap Will with a teenager. Do you think he will try to baby trap Will again post fall by kidnapping a random baby? Or Kill Alana and Margot to raise their son with Will?

It’s not like Will particularly wants a child. His relationship with Abigail is layered; he sympathises with her for losing her family so horrifically and hence cares about her well-being, and simultaneously, he lives through her vicariously in that he wants to cling to her perceived innocence. Killing Hobbs changed Will; it stained his psyche. If Abigail can overcome her trauma induced by her dad, so can Will through her. This can lead to inappropriate trauma bonding which Alana discourages and Hannibal encourages.

I’m not sure exactly what Hannibal hoped to achieve by making them a “family unit”, manipulating both Abigail (in Ouef where he drugs her with mushrooms and deludes her into thinking Hannibal and Alana were her mom and dad, where Will was originally expected to be in Alana’s place and failed to show up) and Will. It could be that he wanted to give Will an anchor in order to rip it away later, or maybe he felt that their closeness would further taint Will’s psyche. But I do believe he understood that Will cared about Abigail’s well-being and what she meant to him spiritually, hence he saved her and then ended up killing her anyway in petty retaliation. I don’t think he will baby trap him again in the future! If he does, I’ll be curious as to why.

Why do you think Hannibal became so suicidal in Florence? Why was moping so much in Italy?

Hannibal was never suicidal! That is antithetical to his entire being. He was self-destructive, but as in all things with Hannibal, it was intentional and controlled self-destruction. Bedelia says it herself: he’s leaving bread crumbs (BLOOD crumbs) so Will and Jack find him. In Mizumono, he was supposed to leave them all behind for good, but turns out, he misses Will and he misses their games. He wants Will’s company which Will denies to him. He is happy in Italy, but he needs something else. He is like a child with a plate full of his favourite meat, constantly craving ice cream that previously caused him cavities. And Bedelia is face palming somewhere in the background, shaking her head at this lunacy.

Why does he keep talking about Will after sex with Alana and Bedelia? Since he met Will 90% of the time he is talking about Will with these women!! Even after having sex with them!! He needs to fuck Will so bad!!!

I don’t know if he ever spoke about Will to Bedelia in bed… With Alana, her distress about Will’s savage behaviour was indeed a catalyst for her getting into bed with Hannibal and their subsequent affair; Hannibal just enjoys fanning the flames, the bastard. He wants to take away Alana from Will and isolate him completely, after all. Hannibal wanting to sleep with Will or not isn’t necessarily the point, that is another conversation altogether imo.

Interesting how gullible and naive Will is despite his keen observational skills. He refuses to believe Abigail to be an accomplice in the Shrike case, all Hannibal had to do was showcase kindness by saving a girl’s life during crisis and hold her hand at the hospital for him to fall for Hannibal’s bullshit, Margot tells him she won’t get pregnant and he’s like, yeah, I guess if you say so, stranger I’ve met twice in my lifetime🤷‍♀️

He is obviously very emotionally intelligent, but it’s easy to fool him when he wants to be fooled.

What is your most controverisal Hannibal take? I'm curious

I hate the murder family trope… I don’t get it… They’re all tied to each other by trauma, Abigail is first her father’s hostage, then Hannibal’s. She is constantly afraid of being “found out” and is constantly negotiating with the world and fate and people to survive, including Will and Hannibal. Will doesn’t even know what Hannibal’s doing to her behind his back.

And I’ll see her being portrayed as this teenager who’s settling in normally in university in europe as a side story to hannigram and I’m like?? That person is fucked for life. She’s a victim to Hannibal, an insect caught in his web. They’re not some pseudo father-daughter. Hannibal’s playing god in her life and she has no power against him.

He did that scene in Contorno s3 e5 where Bedelia and Hannibal are having post coital snails and Hannibal starts talking about how Will is a sheepdog who wants to savage the sheep. Also he confessed to Bedelia multiple times how much he loves Will in Secondo. Btw how do you think Hannibal's first time sex would be?

Ahhh… I don’t know Hannibal’s philosophies about sex and if sex is at all important to him. If the “loss of his virginity” was an event that rippled the calm lake of his mind, he’d have felt that his partner “changed” him. In that case, he’d want to return the favour and probably ate them. If it didn’t matter to him and his curiosity was sated, even then, I picture him eating them. He’s like some horror movie object you don’t want to run into in life, otherwise he’s free to eat you no matter what you do.

Think it finally clicked for me why Hannibal cried crocodile tears in front of Bedelia in s1 finale after Will gets arrested. Hannibal and Bedelia’s relationship in s1 is this: Hannibal will pretend to be an average person in front of her like he does with everyone else, she knows he’s pretending, he knows that she knows, AND she is capable of ambiguously picking out whatever his lies are obfuscating; the very peripheries of his true inner self, and she will counsel that vague truth (mind you, Hannibal gives her NO context so she has very little to work with as a psychiatrist). Essentially, Hannibal goes to her with a desire to chat with someone. REALLY chat with someone. But because he refuses to show himself to anybody, in this game with Bedelia du Maurier, he will pretend to be a normal guy, and he finds it amusing and friendship-like (?) when she is able to get close (as much as her knowledge of him allows) to his true thoughts. Basically Hannibal has no friends and he needs someone to talk to about his nefarious deeds and achievements, but he has to do it in a roundabout way because he doesn’t want to reveal himself to anyone.

It’s a play!! It’s THEATRE!! He’s an actòr!! That’s really the entire dynamic of their therapy sessions in s1.

I don’t know how psychotherapists counsel psychopaths, but I imagine it’s similar to the way Bedelia intentionally treats Hannibal.

They say that Achilles went mad with grief when Patroclus died, and it took divine intervention to stop him from completely sacking Troy before its time by himself. Even if Paris hadn't shot him with his arrow, I don't think he would have survived the loss.

Hannibal sees him and Will to Achilles and Patroclus, he says that in s2e12. What do you think Hannibal will do if Will really ever died ?

What I really like about the characters in Hannibal is that all of them are independent. They have a strong core of individuality, and when the ideals, philosophies, desires, and flaws of these people collide, something magical happens.

So I think Hannibal will continue to live even if Will died before him, but Will’s death would have changed him irrevocably. I imagine him eating Will to merge with him, and it would be beautiful even though he would grieve him for the rest of his life. Maybe he would be irritable; a more limited tolerance for the world and its people. He would be lonely and alone. He has already accepted Will’s profound influence over him, and I think the absence of him would be unbearable now. Yet he will continue to live in exuberance. He will do whatever makes him happy, but he will live with the permanent scar of Will’s loss on his person.

I am sorry for the previous ask.😅 Actually I have seen previous people including Bryan Fuller himself i.e

‘We realize that neither Abel Gideon nor am Du Maurier are suitable substitutes for Will Graham. So he then, acknowledging that and talking it through with Bedelia, starts to set into motion the events that will draw everyone to him.’    -Bryan Fuller

make comparisons between Bedelia and Gideon. Many people say that Gideon took an identity which was not his to take i.e Chesapeake Ripper and hence Hannibal eats his leg. Similarly Bedelia takes an identity which was not her's to take i.e Hannibal's wife which belonged to Will. Hence Hannibal and Will eat her leg that way? What do you think?

I’d need the full context to understand what Bryan said… If you’re asking me specifically about a comparison between Bedelia and Gideon…. firstly, I don’t think Bedelia was a substitute for Will in Italy. Hannibal would not have taken her had Will went with him, sure, but it’s not like he took her as a replacement for Will. It was a coincidence that she went at all. I think the comparison between Bedelia and Gideon exists more in the idea that Bedelia couldn’t distract Hannibal from Will’s absence, and neither could Gideon (re: Gideon telling Hannibal that Hannibal wishes he was dining with Will instead). So to say, Bedelia wasn’t enough to satisfy Hannibal’s loneliness, despite Bedelia’s intelligence and keen observational skills, the way Will could, if that makes sense? In s3e1, Gideon and Bedelia are paralleled for this very reason: to compare how Hannibal fares in the company of interesting, strong, intelligent people, and how he still craves Will’s company, and they both know he does. There is NO WAY he can move on from Mizumono, like he expected to have! And this results in him trying to lead Will back to him through leaving murder breadcrumbs for him to follow. I think that’s what Bryan meant maybe, of course, again, I’d need the full context. As for Hannibal eating Bedelia… Bedelia “belongs” to Hannibal the same way Alana, and by proxy, Margot and their son “belong” to Hannibal. They each entered his orbit, and he likes them, so he will eat them. That is the finale he has chosen for them. It is an expression of his control over their lives. Basically, he controls when and how they die, and what happens to them in their death. That is his expression of “affection”.

Do you think Jack is going to get a similar ending like Alana and Bedelia since he likes Jack?

I don’t know why he WOULDN’T eat Jack, Jack was supposed to be their “last supper” in Mizumono after Hannibal and Will killed him at Hannibal’s dining table. The interesting thing to me is, for Hannibal to eat Jack, first he needs to subdue Jack, which is very difficult. So their fights are always exciting to me. Edit: I’ll also say that Hannibal has built some animosity towards Jack as of Mizumono that carries on till s3 end.

What is your favourite Hannibal quote ?

Anon, shouldn’t we just get married at this point?

I don’t have a no.1 favourite, but two lines come to mind:

“You entered the foyer of my mind and stumbled down the hall of my beginnings.”

and,

“Your memory palace is building. It’s full of new things. It shares some rooms with my own. I’ve discovered you there. Victorious.”

Why do you think Hannibal can be okay with the absence of people he likes i.e has an affection for? But he cannot bear the absence of Will? He is fine with killing Alana, Margot, Abigail, Bedelia, Jack and imo he liked Anthony too. Whereas Mad's and Bryan have said that if he ended up killing Will he would regret it forever. He cannot kill Will even When Will threatens him in Twotl. Why does he seem to miss Will so so much when they are apart whereas he never seems to miss other people he likes even when they are apart or even dead?

Hannibal is not… unfeeling. He experiences emotions more than the average person, but how he chooses to live out those emotions is where it gets freaky. We see the death of a friend or someone we feel affection for as an end point. To Hannibal, death is not an end point, especially because he is eating them. He kills them, transforms them through cooking, and he consumes them. Therefore he has changed them. Essentially, he is exerting absolute control over them, because the thing that is most precious to almost every person is their life, and the the thing that makes them most desperate is death. Hannibal himself is not like this; he has accepted death, and therefore killing him physically won’t actually kill his spirit, but this is another conversation altogether.

“Will” vs. “Other people” is crude, because the feeling Hannibal gets from eating Bedelia must not be the same feeling he gets from eating Alana, as they both have a different role in Hannibal’s life. But the reason Hannibal won’t eat Will is, in my opinion, because Will is more valuable to him alive than dead. He wants Will’s company more than anything in his life. And others people’s company? Not so much. They aren’t that interesting.

Really appreciate the seething hatred and anger coming from Will at the beginning of season 2 meanwhile Hannibal is outside walking around lightheartedly with a skip in his beat. They will irrevocably love and chase each other across Europe later btw.

Can you please write a meta about that scene in Digestivo where Alana asks Hannibal "could I have ever understood You?" And Hannibal says "No" coldly. I didn't understand that scene properly.

That is his philosophy, right? Hannibal doesn’t cater to the concept of right or wrong. Morality is subjective, non-violence isn’t universal. It’s a choice. His entire spiel is that he doesn’t kill because he is evil; he kills because it is possible and he wants to. And so he doesn’t feel any guilt over killing, only joy and exhilaration. So to speak, this is his nature. It is his nature to slay humans and eat them or do whatever he wants with them and there is no “god” weighing over his shoulder and judging him — in fact, killing indiscriminately is an “act of god” and “are we not made in his image?” He is very… Anti-religious. He likes talking about god philosophically, but he rejects all religious teachings regarding good and evil.

He only really reveals the workings of his mind to Will in s2b. Will, in turn, accepts Hannibal’s (self-centered) practicality. Although isn’t ‘good and evil’ also self-centered? Will says he forgives Hannibal in s3 in the catacombs. He accepts Hannibal, and more worryingly, he is drawn to Hannibal because of Hannibal’s beliefs.

Contrast that with Alana, who, while being able to understand Hannibal’s philosophies, is unable to accept or digest them. She is unable to accept him or forgive him. When she asks him, “Could I have ever understood you?” It is helpless. She is simultaneously expressing how much she didn’t truly know him, and how it is impossible for her to justify his actions. There is no way she can make sense of his violence. There is no excuse she could accept, and they both know it.

In ce2e2 Mads said that Will was the first person Hannibal saw a future with. Hannibal knew Alana, Bedelia, Randall Tier much before he knew Will but yet he never saw a future with them? Tobias, someone who has a much darker nature than Will and can understand Hannibal because he is a psychopath himself, tried to seduce Hannibal in s1, yet Hannibal didn't see a future with him and declined his efforts. Why do you think he saw a future with Will unlike these other people Hannibal liked?

Sidenote maybe, I don’t think Hannibal liked Tobias at all. Tobias is a compulsive killer. He can’t stop. Meanwhile Hannibal can stop at anytime, he just chooses not to. I think Hannibal can’t respect such an impulsive mind. Again, there is no comparison between all these people, Hannibal likes Will because Will is Will, not because he’s better than Alana or Bedelia. It’s like ice cream flavours, I like butterscotch not because it’s better than vanilla or mint chocolate. I just like the way butterscotch tastes. I can’t then go on to say “I’d like mint chocolate if it had hardened caramel bits in it.” Because it’s absurd to want that.

Why could Hannibal imagine a future with Will? Hannibal is kind of this ideal human being right? He is perfect in every way. He lives up to the human ideals of a god without even trying, and hence he lives in the present. At the final moment on the cliff, he was elated because his mind branched off into a future scenerio. He saw a possibility of having Will’s company. Perhaps because Will willingly killed and so this is a step further into forcing Will to solving his cognitive dissonance, or because he had a literal partner in crime in the scene before and imagined a similar thing happening again.

Then what does Hannibal like about Will? I don’t like to analyse love too deeply. Then I’d have to breakdown Hannibal and Will’s personalities and I don’t want to do that. Simply, I’ll say Hannibal appreciates Will’s bravery and ruthlessness. He also likes his vulnerability and the way he makes sense of the world given the way his mind works the way it does.

Thinking about Hannibal leaving scratches on Will’s arms to mimic “defensive wounds” from Abigail in Savoureux…

Really tho, why do you think Hannibal is so jealous of Wil's relationships? In season 2 he was upset about the Margot thing and now he's upset about Molly. Granted both involved kids, but Hannibal had affairs with Alana and Bedelia so it's kinda evens-stevens. Any thoughts?

He’s not upset about Will’s romantic relationships, he’s a controlling bastard and tries to be Will’s everything. His friend, brother, father, son, lover. He wants to isolate him from everybody (re: season 1, duh) and possess him entirely. He would consume him if it didn’t mean Will would be dead.

I really like how in season 1, in trou nomand? Will is at Hannibal’s dinner table for the first time and there’s also Abigail and Freddie Lounds, and he’s dressed more carefully than he dresses for his lectures. He looks comfortable, yes, in a sweater and blazer, compared to the tie and shirt assemble he wears to quantico. That tie btw, gets removed at the first given opportunity. I just really like that he just can’t be arsed to do shit for quantico. He has an array of shirts and sweaters and trousers for outside, and for his hobbies, but quantico? Nah. Fuck quantico. He’s there lecturing for them isn’t he? What are they whining about? It’s not like he can’t dress like that (re: season 2) he just can’t be bothered to do it for that job.

What points do you think a lot of people get wrong about Will Graham?

*the line separating his *self* and his impressions of killers being erased in reality, like it is erased in his nightmares. In his dreams, he is Hobbs. In reality, he knows he’s not. When he starts to hallucinate, he worries that that line will dissipate in reality and that he will kill someone — kill Abigail. And Hannibal makes his worst fear come true.

To think I’d transmigrate onto twitter in this way… The JOLT I felt while scrolling…

Songs that reminds you of Will Graham??

I’ve never thought about this… But i do have hannigram core songs; sza’s kill bill, dean’s die 4 you, mitski’s me and my husband, and fujii kaze’s shinunoga e-wa

I’ve always loved Bedelia’s analogy for Hannibal. Person suit, she says, as though Hannibal wakes up every day and wears a costume. Then she amends, no, she says, it is more like a human veil, implying Hannibal is vaguely human, that is, when you look at a person who is wearing a veil, their details are vague, but you know their silhouette belongs to a human, and so they must be. That is how she sees him— someone that looks vaguely human, and so they must be, but really, behind the veil, he could be anything and she knows he’s not. So she calls it a “human” veil, a veil that gives him a human’s silhouette, tricking people into thinking “he looks human, so he must be” and then we go back to Will’s take on the Ripper being, “He looks normal and nobody can tell what he is.”

Really a fan of how Mads’ voice goes 📈 in real life and then 📉 when he plays Hannibal

wip finished! this is a unique situation – I am having to actually edit this.

The idea that “Hannibal has to compromise on his victim pool for Will to be ok with eloping with him post fall” falls apart when you realise that Will is drawn to Hannibal regardless of his cruelty. Will watches Hannibal kill Abigail right in front of his eyes and still chooses not to sever ties. He chases after him in Europe, genuinely tells him “I forgive you.” Will understands Hannibal’s nature… He understands that he feels unbelievably compelled by Hannibal whilst knowing he is who he is — a sadist who tortures people into their deaths, someone who fucked up Will’s head and framed him for murder for the lols — and Will still feels compassion for him; this is the kind of creature Hannibal is, and he is also mind-numbingly complex and incredibly attractive to Will. The conflict is not that Will has to be okay with Hannibal killing ‘innocents’, it’s that Will has to look in the mirror and be able to accept a version of himself who has also murdered people, directly or indirectly. Hunting killers, being in their heads, Will understands intimately the difference between a killer and a non-killer. For so long his fear has been that he will fall off the metaphotical cliff and be seduced by the nature of murder. Those intrusive thoughs he has tried very hard to keep at bay, and now that he has killed Dolarhyde, it will be immensely difficult for him to reconcile with that version of himself. Post-fall, the conflict should be Will’s cognitive dissonance, and not whether or not he can bend Hannibal’s behaviour.

#wip wednesday (it’s actually thursday)

Hi, hi

This fic is now posted if anybody wants to read. Reblogs are appreciated!

Something so grim? fond? magical? about Hannibal making Will’s worst fear come true. The relationship between Will and Garrett Jacob Hobbs, although of hunter and prey, is so painful. Will gets so into Hobbs’ head that he is unable to free himself of him; Hobbs is like gum stuck in Will’s hair, like ink staining his fingertips. And he dreams of Hobbs, as Hobbs, killing Abigail, and hallucinates Abigail call him dad; in his unconscious moments, Will is forced to give up his autonomy to the parts of him that wear the costume of Garrett Jacob Hobbs. And he is afraid that if he is mentally ill, and he has lost control over himself, if he is losing time, then maybe he will do something irrevocable as Garret Jacob Hobbs. He tells Hannibal this. What does Hannibal do? Make him believe he killed Abigail Hobbs.

Disgusting. Astonishing. His audacity! Hannibal pushed a man terrified of falling off the cliff—off the cliff, and now he will observe what a man who’s living his nightmare will do—what a man like Will Graham will do. And Will Graham not only stubbornly perseveres and recovers his memory, he then attempts to murder Hannibal via Matthew Brown. Chefs kiss.

While Hannibal’s ‘good samaritan’ act in s1e1 is astonishing in its audacity, it’s also so lovely that Will Graham’s weakness is kindness in people. He saw Hannibal being a good, capable guy and forgave him the insult of trying to sneakily barge into Will’s private life. In this way, he is like that naive lamb. He gravitates towards the good in people, he is attracted to it, and unfortunately, this made it easier for the devil to manipulate him.

No, it’s sooo….. thrilling how Hannibal’s been this genius all his life, pulling strings, always getting his way. Then they drop the ‘cat’ to his 'mouse’ right in front of him; another genius who is so good at catching people it’s insane. And even whilst Hannibal is medically manipulating him and misleading him and forcing him to go on a wild goose chase, Will is stubbornly catching up. It’s like Hannibal is pointing every where and Will still looks right back at him. And that must be so incredibly daunting and exciting to Hannibal. He’s being hunted, successfully, for the very first time in his life by another genius. So it must have been so satisfying for him to see Will on the other side of the bars, with Will having fully realised who he is, but caught in the trap instead of the mouse.

The true unsung heroine of nbc Hannibal is the hair stylist. Etheline Joseph gave us Will’s ‘i woke up like this’ curls in s1, gave us that roman prince side part with that little curl on his temple revenge look in s2, she gave us Hannibal’s slicked back hair set in gorilla glue, gave us casual, ruffled bangs, gave us sexy fight hair. She gave us everything and we don’t talk about it enough.

The “Has Will been hiding his serial killer urges all this time?!” Vs. “Hannibal made him evil!” Debate makes me slowly close my eyes whenever I see them randomly. That’s really not the point of the story and has never been a point of concern. We’re simply following a traumatised man and watching the chain reactions of human interaction. That’s the beauty of this show.

I really love how Hannibal has the characteristics of a classical psychopath — he fundamentally doesn’t care about the opinions of other people regarding himself, he is fearless, he doesn’t mind pain, and he is manipulative, narcissistic, utterly charming, incredibly confident, and self-serving. Then all these attributes are compounded with a keen practicality, sentimentality, intelligence and philosophy, as well as a sense of grounding. He isn’t anti-social, unlike Will Graham, he is asocial, and not because he lacks empathy, but because his philosophy makes it such that he feels he is above everybody else. People are like senseless animals to him, unwilling to utilise their intelligence and bound to the laws of society. He is like a lonely, fun-loving, and easily bored god passing through such a crowd. I love the depth and relatability such a perverse perception of life gives him. If Hannibal was simply an unempathetic psychopath, I think it would be extremely difficult to like him and not think of him as a caricature.

It’s so funny that Will reveals himself to Hannibal without any doubts about Hannibal’s character: he tells him all sorts of strange things while probably appreciating how open minded and intelligent Hannibal is, meanwhile blatantly disregarding the possibility that Hannibal understands him and is lenient towards his eccentricities because Hannibal is also eccentric.

72k, complete

“It’s crowded in my head,” Will admits. “Like someone’s written over all my pages, and I can’t see what’s beneath.”

“Beneath all the words is nothing but a blank sheet. With patience and the right tools, you can carve the ink away.”

Will tilts his chin up. “I think that’s already been tried, Dr. Lecter.”

“Your father cut himself out of you.”

“Not well enough.”

Garret Jacob Graham could have taught Hannibal Lecter a thing or two about raising monsters.

or, S1 with Will as Abigail. Pre-slash but decidedly Hannigram.

Now complete!

This was a great read!! I highly recommend it!

Last reblog (is that a thing on tumblr?) it’s so rare to find similar ideas to mine pertaining to hannibal (and dare I say, a sort of similar writing style to mine??? At least, centering on sensations) and while I felt gratified, it was not just enjoyable because I could recognize most of the ideas, I really liked the universe of the fic. At points, Hannibal was reflected in Will’s actions which I found novel. It was easy to imagine a parallel version of Will, the canon version of him, lamenting on this Will’s fate. I want to tag the author but with the personal lamenting on top I find it rude to do so. I hope if they see it, they don’t mind!
