Oral fixation Will Graham but he likes to bite and chew.
I love how Hannibal is understood through his acts of violence. Him making Gideon auto cannibalise is Hannibal satisfying his ego. Attempting to murder Jack is an indifferent fullstop at the end of a sentence; it’s simply meant to be. Cutting off Abigail’s ear and forcing her to fake her own death is an act of authority and over encompassing kindness. Medically abusing Will is him being a circus master, playing with his animals and tricks and the pain is not pain; in fact it’s all quite fun and colourful. Eating Beverly in a cracker made to resemble Will’s mental asylum mask is a show of dominance. Eating the silo tank killer is child-like curiosity and accomplishment. Stabbing Will in Mizumono is heartbreak and a gift; this is intimate and special; he’s never done anything like this and never met anyone like him, in fact, this is the first time he is murderously violent towards Will because he’s never wanted to before this; hasn’t wanted to draw blood. Shoving pazzi off the balcony to hang from his own intestines is amusing. Trying to eat Will’s brain is serious and important. Eating Frederick’s lip is establishing himself as THE horror in the room, don’t you ever forget that :>
Something crazy about Hannibal being the subject of Will’s career and Will being the subject of Hannibal’s career; Hannibal is the kind of danger Will hunts down and teaches people how to hunt down, and Will has a mind that attracts Hannibal’s scientific curiosity the most
A part of Will dying in Mizumono via the dead stag >>>>
He’s like a vampire in this sense: he fully expected to die (contrasted with Abigail going to the mortician Vs Will going to the surgical suite) but he wakes up. He wakes up and the before and after of this brutality means he will never be who he used to be. He is undead and alive and melancholic.
I like to believe Hannibal carries a certain sense of zen. He prefers ostentation, when it’s available to him, and even in his mind palace, he accepts material wealth. But I think he’ll be just fine even without because Hannibal values mental enrichment over materialism. I know this is ironic because he’s just so damn loud in the clothes he wears, in the houses he lives in, in the car he drives, in the food he eats; but really, he has the mental fortitude to still be himself even without any of these. Inside Hannibal’s mind, what makes him him are not things. What makes him him is his mind. What makes him different is his mind. He knows this intimately and it’s a point of pride and power for him that he has the sharpest mind in any room he’s ever in.
The ECCC interview was so good!!!!
I feel like we give Alana too much grief for getting with Hannibal, but consider this: you see your decades long mentor and friend hung up with a noose round his neck and “crucified”, his blood is rivering towards your feet. You’d be forced to reconcile your relationship with Will Graham too. It’s just that Hannibal is depraved enough to understand this and obfuscate his way into severing her and Will’s connection completely.
Mafia husband Will Graham is so pretty and handsome and quiet. He’s hard to approach and says mean things when he’s forced to socialise. When he does pay attention to you, it feels like you’re being skinned. His curiosity is burdensome and scary. In this respect, Hannibal and Will are well-suited as partners. They’re also both excellent at poker somehow.
It’s pathetic (and I don’t mean it derogatively, instead romantically) that the ways in which both Hannibal and Will betray each other is through pretending to be each other’s friend and confidant. The offering of comraderie is so tempting and enchanting when you’ve existed all your life believing you weren’t made for it or that it wasn’t made for you.
Hannibal framing Chilton is insidious to me because, obviously, no one’s buying it. But it’s hard to dispute evidence piled upon evidence piled upon evidence. They found Gideon steaked out in his basement. Found officers bodies. HARD physical evidence > “your honour he’s too stupid and weak to have committed these crimes”. They HAD to arrest him regardless of how anyone “felt” about it. In my eyes this was Hannibal low-key spitting on Jack’s face. It’s like “oh? Haha ok you’re right. I’m the ripper~! But you can’t prove it. And the proof you DO find won’t support your hunch, but you can’t say that out loud because you’re supposed to be a good investigator who respects evidence. Isn’t that why you arrested your darling Will Graham?^^”
I love how Will is aware of Hannibal’s attention but he just ignores it. Hannibal will literally look like Tom from Tom & Jerry, with a bib round his neck, licking his lips, and rubbing his hands as he looks Will up and down like he’s the finest meal he’s ever seen and Will will roll his eyes going “Anyway”
Does anyone wanna talk Hannigram with me *^|
Hannibal really is so special in every aspect: You ask him about the love of his life and he’ll say shit like “Ah yes, he once threw us off a cliff right after we reconciled” with the most infatuated smile
I really like that although Will reaches for Molly for comfort as he deals with his reunion with Hannibal and Dolarhyde’s murders, it cannot triumph the unsavoury emotions Hannibal inspires within Will. It says something about Will, and Will and Hannibal: The discomfort and fascination he feels near Hannibal has a greater pull on him than the safety that Molly, his family (the thing he has carved all along), can provide. This is the crux of the matter: Will can’t let go of Hannibal for his own good. In fact, he points his rage at Ingram, at Dolarhyde, but not at Hannibal for doing the same thing. Hannibal’s actions are not healed from nor forgotten yet they’re accepted. Understood. Forgiven. Even though they shouldn’t. Even though he should stay away. Even though Hannibal is horrible to him. But he’s not horrible FOR him, and that’s insidious. Molly isn’t enough to pull him away from that.
Will Graham would sacrifice Bobby Bronson to the devil
Still drives me crazy how Hannibal’s stab wound appears like a bloody bite mark on Will’s pristine white bandages and then bleeds into a kiss mark. That’s exactly what being loved by Hannibal is like
The gall of Hannibal to run from the FBI and hide in fucking Florence of all places–it’s a highkey city and presumably a place he lived in when he was young. And then he proceeds to taunt them with bodies like breadcrumbs because he wants them to catch up to him. I think we fail to realize just how insane he is because even at this point in his life–having lost his credibility, public agency, his entire CAREER he’s spend DECADES curating–he’s still looking down the nose at everyone. He’s confident that he can get away with A N Y T H I N G. You know how they say psychopaths often occupy high positions at work because they are just incapable of feeling fear of failure? This is that. And the crazy thing is that his confident is not unfounded. They literally couldn’t catch him until he surrendered–he left everyone who tried to in pieces.
“I’m curious whether either of us can survive separation” goes harder when we remember that Will and Hannibal were solitary before meeting each other. Will wanted but couldn’t bear company; Hannibal had but didn’t need company. They met each other, got tangled up with each other, realised no one else knows them as much as they do nor can they. It must feel insanely addictive and reckless—to have a part of someone in you and be a part of someone to such an extent that you question if living would be as fun or interesting without them in your life, especially because you thought that kind of company wasn’t for you.
Am willing to share my top three Hannigram fics in no particular order:
The Storyteller
One Way Out Of Many
Empty places
We know Will’s never seen Hannibal’s skills in action–he just brutally murders Abigail and Dolarhyde–he’s never seen him throw the knife at Jack and hitting bullseye to disarm him of his gun, hasn’t seen him stab that Italian professor’s brain during dinner so precisely–hasn’t seen him really AT work; only seen the end result. Do we think Will would find his capabilities attractive? We all remember him staring at Hannibal in the ambulance. I think post BSHCI Will wouldn’t outwardly react but would get hot under his skin. Squirm in his clothes. Have nerves in his brain spark like fireworks. Outwardly, he just looks on passively, although his persona is imperfect and shaky.
Hannibal’s flirtations are so intimate it drives me crazy. “You just came here to look at me.” “When life becomes maddeningly polite, think about me.” He makes himself the subject–Will should look at him, think about him. I’m at the heart of your issue; indulge in me. The second line is especially sensual–the contrast between the aggressive ‘maddeningly’ with the soft 'polite’; when life drives you crazy with its impersonality, you’ll find your relief in me; in your thoughts about me.
