Got to enjoy how different Alana and Bedelia are to Will. Will’s all rugged rat coming out of its nest with dust in its fur, while Alana and Bedelia could grace the covers of some urban homeowners magazine. Hannibal went from “Ha ha look at this loser (high and mighty)” to “Haha look at this loser (dreamy and desperate)” from s1 to s3. He’s all flirty with Alana and Bedelia, like, oh you want to fuck me don’t you? You want to fuck me so badly and I’m gonna use that against you. And then with Will he’s like, please I can’t take this anymore can we get married?? please can we?? please I’m in love with you, I’ll go to jail for you. And Will’s like ???? I thought you wanted to eat me??? and Hannibal’s like yes yes eat you, while looking at his ass probably.
Bedelia is an unpleasant person. The only reason she’s digestible to the audience is because she effects and is affected by Hannibal and Will. If she was present in any other context, with any other person—say if she lived in Alana’s world in season one. Say they were colleagues, she wouldn’t fit. Hannibal and Will make her fit because they’re imaginative. I’m truth, someone innocent would find her disgusting and horrible.
They really got Laurence Fishburne (from the Matrix) reacting to oblivious bisexual Will Graham saying he wanted to run away with psychopathic serial killer Hannibal Lecter after he cut them both like a bitch and left them for the vultures 🙏
I like to think that when Matthew started interfering with Will’s trial, Hannibal felt uneasy. He didn’t know who this other player that was throwing a wretch into Hannibal well laid plans was, especially because Will’s life was stake here. One wrong move = death penalty. I think when he went to stand witness for him, part of him was still mocking Will, but part of him was earnest in wanting to support Will. Of course he knew this flimsy evidence wouldn’t stand in court, he’s not stupid. But he’s selfishly taking Will’s side regardless, knowing it’s probably useless. A rare instance of acting mostly on emotion. But to Will, it must have entirely come across as Hannibal puppeteering him again. Laughing at him, playing with his food. Which is not wrong, yet Will doesn’t realise at this point that Hannibal runs deeper than his cruelty.
