I personally think if Will Graham died, Hannibal would grow more violent because he’s so angry. There would be no joy in fucking around anymore; now it’s a form of self-expression. If Hannibal died, Will would become like Bella when Edward left her for a wee bit. He’d be depressed and life would pass him by.
High schooler Hannibal cornered into playing American football and he’s concerningly violent. What do you mean this posh transfer student with the coiffed hair, European accented English, and polite smiles is bodying people into the ground and throwing the ball like he wants to put people in a coma? Remember that one time someone finally punched him in the face and he grinned with a bloodied mouth like he was entertained? Meanwhile Will Graham on the side going I Told You So when no one batted an eye at him saying “he’s hiding a psycho under that overtly amicable persona” as everyone was fawning over him
Will is truly interesting—he has all this rage for and wants retribution from Hannibal, but he turns himself blunt and plays the patient fisherman in season 2 to draw him out. This is because 1. It’s the right thing to do; catch serial killers like he always does and 2. He can’t seem to hate him. He doesn’t want to kill him.
But he fantasizes about killing him. Will thinks of being violent towards Hannibal; speaks of it, dreams of it, fantasizes about it. Doesn’t do it. Can’t do it. Not yet. However he takes it out on others; Ingram, Randall, Mason. He lets them bear repercussions because they’re irredeemable unlike Hannibal. Which is fucking weird because none of these people medically abused him and made him think himself a stranger. This is a grave crime, clearly.
This is all to say, Will’s priorities are uncommon. He projects: he hates Ingram because he reflects a one-note Hannibal who’s not very interesting, and so it’s easier to despise him. He attacks Randall in apparent self-defense but what is also a percerted expression of anger for Hannibal. He hits Mason because he hurts Margot; an innocent. He’s clearly centering Hannibal in all this, but is unable to hurt Hannibal himself. Instead he takes it out on others; like he’s going at a punching bag until his knuckles go raw.
