Hannibal is such a baby trapper. He tried to trap Will with a teenager. Do you think he will try to baby trap Will again post fall by kidnapping a random baby? Or Kill Alana and Margot to raise their son with Will?
It’s not like Will particularly wants a child. His relationship with Abigail is layered; he sympathises with her for losing her family so horrifically and hence cares about her well-being, and simultaneously, he lives through her vicariously in that he wants to cling to her perceived innocence. Killing Hobbs changed Will; it stained his psyche. If Abigail can overcome her trauma induced by her dad, so can Will through her. This can lead to inappropriate trauma bonding which Alana discourages and Hannibal encourages.
I’m not sure exactly what Hannibal hoped to achieve by making them a “family unit”, manipulating both Abigail (in Ouef where he drugs her with mushrooms and deludes her into thinking Hannibal and Alana were her mom and dad, where Will was originally expected to be in Alana’s place and failed to show up) and Will. It could be that he wanted to give Will an anchor in order to rip it away later, or maybe he felt that their closeness would further taint Will’s psyche. But I do believe he understood that Will cared about Abigail’s well-being and what she meant to him spiritually, hence he saved her and then ended up killing her anyway in petty retaliation. I don’t think he will baby trap him again in the future! If he does, I’ll be curious as to why.
