Something so grim? fond? magical? about Hannibal making Will’s worst fear come true. The relationship between Will and Garrett Jacob Hobbs, although of hunter and prey, is so painful. Will gets so into Hobbs’ head that he is unable to free himself of him; Hobbs is like gum stuck in Will’s hair, like ink staining his fingertips. And he dreams of Hobbs, as Hobbs, killing Abigail, and hallucinates Abigail call him dad; in his unconscious moments, Will is forced to give up his autonomy to the parts of him that wear the costume of Garrett Jacob Hobbs. And he is afraid that if he is mentally ill, and he has lost control over himself, if he is losing time, then maybe he will do something irrevocable as Garret Jacob Hobbs. He tells Hannibal this. What does Hannibal do? Make him believe he killed Abigail Hobbs.
Disgusting. Astonishing. His audacity! Hannibal pushed a man terrified of falling off the cliff—off the cliff, and now he will observe what a man who’s living his nightmare will do—what a man like Will Graham will do. And Will Graham not only stubbornly perseveres and recovers his memory, he then attempts to murder Hannibal via Matthew Brown. Chefs kiss.
