I like to believe Hannibal carries a certain sense of zen. He prefers ostentation, when it’s available to him, and even in his mind palace, he accepts material wealth. But I think he’ll be just fine even without because Hannibal values mental enrichment over materialism. I know this is ironic because he’s just so damn loud in the clothes he wears, in the houses he lives in, in the car he drives, in the food he eats; but really, he has the mental fortitude to still be himself even without any of these. Inside Hannibal’s mind, what makes him him are not things. What makes him him is his mind. What makes him different is his mind. He knows this intimately and it’s a point of pride and power for him that he has the sharpest mind in any room he’s ever in.
