Hannibal framing Chilton is insidious to me because, obviously, no one’s buying it. But it’s hard to dispute evidence piled upon evidence piled upon evidence. They found Gideon steaked out in his basement. Found officers bodies. HARD physical evidence > “your honour he’s too stupid and weak to have committed these crimes”. They HAD to arrest him regardless of how anyone “felt” about it. In my eyes this was Hannibal low-key spitting on Jack’s face. It’s like “oh? Haha ok you’re right. I’m the ripper~! But you can’t prove it. And the proof you DO find won’t support your hunch, but you can’t say that out loud because you’re supposed to be a good investigator who respects evidence. Isn’t that why you arrested your darling Will Graham?^^”
