I’m reading Tamsyn Muir’s Insta Q&A where she talks about how she couldn’t make The Locked Tomb universe a future in which we’d outgrown homophobia, because she just couldn’t envision that even in sci-fi, but that she instead made it a universe where homophobia had never existed at all.
And in a real-life context, that is incredibly sad and depressing. But, in a in-universe context, it’s incredibly funny for me to picture John remaking the world from its ashes and being like “Yes, I’m going to remake this into a fascist empire, and yes, I’m going to kill entire planets to fuel my colonization efforts, but even I draw the line at homophobes.”
