I was scrolling through the Audible reviews for Nona at like 3 AM because I couldn’t fall asleep (as one does) and the STARK divide between review-writing fans is so fucking funny. People either loved Nona or they feel like Tamsyn Muir wrote the book to deliberately frustrate them specifically. Nona is a joy or an abomination. I love it. I think that’s very Nona of this book.

I can’t decide which is funnier: that “Varun The Eater”, the planet-shaped revenant that ominously hangs in the sky for most of Nona The Ninth, is the soul of Uranus, and thus, in kind of a convoluted way, an allusion to eating ass (a joke maybe only Gideon could laugh at), or that Varun is the soul of Jupiter, and thus yet another Homestuck reference:
