If what you feel is new,
That’s just first bloom
(Who are you? Where are you growing to?)
As you inch towards the clues
Bless whatever brings you here and to

this started off as a quick companion sketch for my Nona (& Friends) playlist, but of course became something much more involved. If she’d had a portable tape player, I feel like Nona might have taken some moments to relax like this.

⭐️ New Patreon Post! ⭐️ The Locked Tomb fanart - the Eighth Saint to serve the King Undying, finally getting her time to shine, in a picture I started last year, oof. Hopefully much more artwork to come, because I love these books, and I especially love Ianthe Tridentarius and her goofy megalomaniacal bullshit.

As always, you can see the full-size piece early, see patreon-exclusive process images from sketch to final artwork, and read more of my behind-the-scenes notes by supporting me for $1 USD or more per month!

Ianthe Tridentarius Ianthe the First, Prince Ianthe Naberius; Lyctor, Eighth Saint to serve the King Undying, Tall Hot Glass of Skank. A girl who’d tell you she’s gotten everything she ever wantedand you’d almost believe her.

I thought of drawing her propaganda poster as a closer likeness, but decided it was funnier if it was obviously retouched to look more healthy and saintly.

(process pics from sketch to final artwork available to see on patreon! This one had a longer journey than some of my other illustrations.)

my hot Locked Tomb take is that there isn’t enough gross art of Ianthe specifically out there. I can finally post this having put my money where my mouth is with my newest fanart piece, but like. I love it every time someone creates a new image of my girl, we artists are all unique flowers in the garden of fandom and it’s fine if gore is not your thing, but I, personally, crave more grossness. I need more viscera. She is a type of necromancer canonically called a flesh magician. She takes bites out of people. She eats hair and fingernails. She once shielded herself in a bubble of miscellaneous human membrane. She bundled up another character in a big wad of human fat and sent her rolling down a hallway. She flooded a whole room with a super-sticky blend of human fat that she called “my own recipe”. Ianthe is yucky disgusting!! I want to see more art of her accessorized with substances that need a content warning! (I’m doing my part)

So what is locked tomb exactly anyways?

Oohhh @mobbothetrue your tags!!

A lot of these points were deliberate (the effect of scrolling down and seeing the picture get Worse, the torn posters on the bottom still looking out), but you also noticed some things that I hadn’t really thought about. Thank you for writing so much about your interpretation🥲 I loved reading your thoughts!! It’s always so cool and interesting to hear how other people interpret the choices I’ve made in an illustration.

lilacsolanum:

I am a huge fan of the Locked Tomb Trilogy/Series(???) and also have been narrating audiobooks for two years. Audio is so, so important for accessibility for reasons far beyond impaired vision, and I’ve always been sad the short stories aren’t in audio. I made a fan version of The Unwanted Guest for people who prefer audio. My take on the characters is my own so don’t expect a Moira Quirk impression, but my performance is definitely informed by hers.

(Note: There may be a glitch or two or some weirdness here. I used this project to experiment a new DAW on rather than something I was getting paid for, you get it, and there may be some uh-ohs from my journey. plz forgive me.)

my friend Liana recorded an audio performance of The Unwanted Guest! Listen to it with your ears and your heart.
