I finished reading Nona The Ninth two days ago and I can’t stop thinking about like, all of it, but I especially can’t stop thinking about Nona driving the truck through the River, heartbroken and exhausted and fading and ready to give in and let go and let herself and everyone get swept under and die– but then Paul reminds her that Noodle is in the truck too, sweet Noodle who loves his walks and hates having his pattens put on and doesn’t deserve anything that’s happening, and she rallies at once and uses a last incredible burst of energy to pull off an unbelievable transdimensional Akira slide right out of the River and into a perfect parallel-parking job right on the Ninth House, all because she remembered that she was responsible for this dog’s life, too. Her soul was rattling her body apart but she got her shit together and she did it for all of them but critically, she did it for Noodle. I love Nona so, so much.
