love how the series is called ‘the locked tomb’ when we find out in book one that the tomb has literally been unlocked for like 10 whole years before book one’s timeline even starts

god does it ever just hit that there’s a part of harrow that wants to be gideon’s cavalier, to compete for her hand in marriage, to meet her at a coffee shop and touch her hand by accident. Our girl is going through a list of romantic tropes. Given more time she’d have conjured up a hotel with only one bed or manufactured a lifelong ice skating rivalry. queen of creating convoluted situations that All require her & gideon to be in close contact. when u think about it isn’t canaan house also a situation like that? when u think about it wasn’t harrow’s whole life a situation like that? how far back does this go ma'am. how many pages of your journal are just lists of schemes to keep gideon close by
what I love about ianthe is that if she had just said. Look guys there’s a murderer here picking us off one by one reinforcements are Not on their way I killed my cavalier so I could use that power to fight whoever’s killing us all off it was a tragedy but I did what I had to. If she had said that and then taken exactly the same actions she does in htn, she straight up would have been one of the heroes but because she chose to do a full villain monologue for the drama she’s gone into the antihero category. Like she did that on purpose! She wanted everyone to know. She could easily have been WAY more manipulative than she is but she constantly chooses to act a little trashy on purpose for fun and THAT is why she is THE character

ok now I can’t stop thinking about the soup scene. it’s SUCH a good scene, I think there’s nothing I love more than a character who is extremely, surprisingly capable, who everyone underestimates (the same reason why the “go loud” scene hits so hard in GtN, because nobody but us and gideon knows how good cam is, and it’s thrilling to see everyone proved wrong). but it’s not just that they underestimate harrow, they straight up dismiss her as like this useless, failed child. and the whole fucking book she doesn’t get a shred of respect, and the entire book we have to see harrow- our proud and sharp and clever harrow- reduced to this trembling bleeding ball of grief, and she has to endure that too. I think she knows that she used to be more. and finally when she’s pushed to her breaking point, lobotomized, hunted, six-days-no-sleep harrow still does what no one else can do, because she’s just that desperate and she’s just that good.
you know I don’t think that we talk enough about the fact that harrow’s soup was not good. like it tasted bad. God takes a spoonful and very politely takes a sip of water and then does not eat any more of the soup. harrow’s plot was delicious but her soup was not
