i think the fact that harrow and gideon’s fighting is often motivated by loneliness and desire for attention, is best evidenced by the fact that the most cutting thing harrow can think to say in two separate fights is, i hardly even remember about you most of the time.
like, first of all, objectively untrue. but also, a weirdly mask-off thing to say? when harrow shoots to kill, she doesn’t say i hate you, she says i don’t care. and i think this cuts both ways. harrow is the only person who knows gideon well enough to really hate her, and vise versa. they each base so much of themselves on each other (cue the ‘at least i had your full attention’ quote). i hardly even remember about you is the most terrible thing harrow can say to her, and she knows it. because they’re both so so lonely. really informs gideon’s feelings about the lobotomy. all gideon’s ever wanted harrow to do is remember about her.
