yes one of the theses of the unwanted guest is that love changes you. and that’s nice and beautiful, but we could go another way and say it’s that love and freedom don’t coexist. you can be completely alone, completely free to do whatever you want and be your own immutable self, but you can’t have love that way. love is compromise. love restricts. Ianthe is the perfect example of that. she thinks she’s perfectly herself, perfectly Ianthe, but her freedom and individuality is being slowly eroded by her close contact with Naberius’ soul, as well as her desperation to get Coronabeth back. as Tamsyn said, you have not yet begun to see the horrors of love. and I think I finally have an idea of what she meant by that now.

peak romance is sucking the life force outta someone nasty and then putting bread in a drawer for them
I’m in a creative writing class this year, and I’m supposed to give a presentation on a short story of my choice. What’s everyone’s favourite non-tlt tamsyn muir short story?
memorizingthedigitsofpi:
woman seeking blorbo: must be a female character, preferably an adult. Intelligence levels of smart to genius (either through life experience or through schooling), social skills anywhere from awkward to none. Her ability to understand her own emotions should be slim to verging on complete and utter confusion. Either that or just refusing to accept she even possesses any.
It is absolutely imperative that she have no chill. I want her thirsty, but I want that thirst to be restrained. The more clueless she is about potential love interests and their opinion of her, the better. Her fatal flaw may or may not be one of the seven deadly sins, but I want it to be something I can dig my grubby little mitts into. She has to, at least once in canon, make a completely bonkers decision that makes me question her sanity.
Bonus points if she has at least 1 best friend I can ship her with when I’m in the mood for shipping (gender doesn’t matter).
it’s really funny for me to think about the first time I read gideon the ninth because I did not know what the fuck was happening the entire time. it seemed to change genres every time I picked it up. I completely lost track of all the characters. I thought silas was like 80 years old. I forgot who ianthe was and got confused when she showed up at the end. it was like trying to read a book that kept shapeshifting into a different book every time I looked away
