I hope Paul looks at Harrow someday - like if she ever gets to be genuinely happy and looks at someone with love softening her face - and asks her to do them a favor and look at them like she’s trying to understand what they’re talking about. More eyebrows. And then they say, “Good god, perfect. Do you know, I miss Nona terribly.”
hey sorry your girlfriend erased you from her brain. yeah she didn’t want to absorb your soul so now she doesn’t remember you at all. however her mouth does still remember how to say your name even though she has no idea you exist. yeah she called for you when she was dying but on a conscious level she doesn’t know about that. sorry
hey bad news about your boyfriend…I put him in a jail, and filled up the jail with acid, once for every time he made a frivolous remark, or ate peanuts in a cohort admiralty meeting, and then at the end of a thousand years he will say, “mercy, I have learned not to do any of these things because I hated the acid you put on me” and I will say “that is why I did it, lord. I did it for you and for your empire.” I often think about this
Still not over the time I saw someone reading Gideon the ninth and said (while they were reading the first section of Gideon trying to escape the Ninth) that the story seemed tailor made to transfer to a modern setting because it reminded them so much of someone trying to leave their small town.
And I don’t mean this in a bad way but I literally haven’t stopped thinking about that. Ah, yes. Gideon Nav, orphan in a dying small town trying desperately to join the Army so she can make something of her life and escape her highschool valedictorian nemesis. All good so far. And then she gets sent to a death game to appoint the new Supreme Court Justices. And dies. And then finds out her dad is George Washington and her mom did 9/11.
