Huge shout out to my buddy who doesn’t even know he’s winning. All he’s read of the Locked Tomb series is the Cohort Intelligence Files at the end of Gideon the Ninth, and his only comment was “It seems like this was written by someone who is in love with Coronabeth and angry about it.” Congratulations you mad perceptive lad.

what I find, just, so indescribably funny is that every single villain moment Cytherea attempts after the reveal gets fucking demolished. She does her little speech and Camilla smashes in from stage right with the wrath of the Emperor. She withers Cam and Harrow appears to bury her in a fuck-off amount of skeletons. “You couldn’t fucking afford me.” From “nothing can hurt me anymore” to “Spoke too soon, old news.” She goes to butcher Ianthe and Camilla gets her in the back. “Step off, bitch.” Every time she gets ready to murder she gets got. Even if you are an adult and surrounded by toddlers, a toddler with a sufficient lack of regard for their own safety can launch themselves at you with enough force to bowl you over, and every time she stands up yet another toddler launches themselves at her knees. Poetic cinema.

I’ve been thinking a lot lately about protective Harrow because it’s Good, and,
can y'all imagine once Gideon gets back in her body? how Extra Protective Harrow is going to be???? she lost her once and god DAMMIT she’s not going to lose her again, she’ll kick anyone and everyone’s ass to keep her safe, she’ll kick her own ass,

There are two types of people who read Gideon the ninth: those who hate Harrow when we first meet her because she’s a raging bitch to Gideon who doesn’t deserve that but then slowly realize over the course of the book that she’s really just a traumatized child who doesn’t understand emotions and has the burden of her entire house on her shoulders and the mere existence of Gideon is a constant reminder of the 200 lives her parents sacrificed for her to exist and slowly learn to love her just as Gideon does
And then there’s those of us who meet Harrowhark Nonagesimus, the raging bitch, and are immediately like, “Yes. Her. I love her.”

So here’s what my wife and I feel the Nine Houses sound like in our cursed American Accents AU.
Second: Texas
Third: Deep South (probably Georgia)
Fourth: Chicago
Fifth: Midwest (probably Minnesota)
Sixth: New York (Bronx)
Seventh: Posh New England
Eighth: RP British, they refuse to sound like everyone else, gross
And the Ninth?
The Ninth have NO discernible regional accent. They all sound like news anchors. It freaks everyone out. When Harrow says “I pray the tomb is shut forever, I pray the rock is never rolled away”, it sounds like she’s reporting on the Dow Jones numbers.
“And now over to Griddle for Sports. Griddle?”
“WE DON’T HAVE ANY SPORTS! BACK TO YOU BABY!”
“Coming up next we’ve got the weather, any chance we’ll get some relief from this bone-chilling weather, Harrow?”
“No. Back to you.”

I want Gideon to crush me with her huge biceps tbh 🖤
Thinking about the mentions of Harrow and fire and the parallels between
If she wanted to watch the world burn, wouldn’t we all be alight? (GtN, 345)
and
A tiny voice in the back of her head was saying, Someone will burn for this, but it was only ever her own. (GtN, 443)
and
She was consumed. She was the kindling for the arson taking place in her heart, her brain dry wadding for the flames, her soul so much incandescent gas. (HtN, 380)

Making a Gideon playlist like… please some affection? can someone spare some love and affection for this poor girl
mayasaura:
Firmly believe that Gideon and Harrow could sort all their shit out, become the disgustingly romantic couple they’ve always secretly wanted to be, live together in domestic bliss for a decade, and Gideon would absolutely still bite Harrow if she covered her mouth with her hand. That’s just who they are.

almost finished with my reread (relisten more accurately) of harrow the ninth and I really wanted to draw this scene
olreid:
this is almost certainly a post ive made before but when a character’s grief is so strong it fully alters the form of the narrative itself… moby dick being so much longer than strictly necessary because ishmael’s grief made him stall for time in the telling of the tragedy… harrow the ninth being in second person because harrow was so grief-stricken that she herself was not capable of making narrative sense of the events of the novel and so someone else had to do it…. do u know what i mean
