A thing I find fun about Muir’s worldbuilding is how deeply intertwined “sacred” and “heretical” are. Like. Silas Octakiseron calls the lyctoral theorem some religious insult, desecration or sin or heresy or something, don’t remember, without pausing over the fact that this is literally sanctioned by his God as the path to sainthood. Harrow worships God and the beast she believes was made to kill God with a deeply interrelated fervor. God is worshipped first and foremost for resurrecting the solar system but resurrection is always referred to as a terrible sin, no matter who’s speaking. It’s all very “I am a dyke and I have not resolved my issues with the Christian church, pull up a chair.”

Sadistic female villains torturing sapphic heroine’s love interests.

Heavily wounded heroines dragging themselves along the ground with wide, slippery blood trails left behind them.

Female villains following the aforementioned blood trails and mercilessly unleashing their worst on the weakened and vulnerable heroine.
