Harrowhark is the walking embodiment of āI hate myself so much I canāt conceive of anyone else loving me so I will be prickly and cold and cruel if necessary because thatās what I deserve in every way, from everyoneā and Gideon is the walking embodiment of āI have never been worthy of love because I was a mistake and responsible for death from a young age but given half the chance I will still love and love and love and love until thereās nothing left of me anymore because I was never loved, but I wouldnāt want anyone else to feel that way.ā And then these walking cries for help spent their whole lives in combat with each other only because of the hateful circumstances of their birth, and the SECOND they were no longer caged in by those circumstances they started seeing each other clearly and realized that their life-long combat was just their natural proclivity to life-long devotion, twisted in on itself by the death and coldness of the Ninth House, and now that they were away from the Ninth they could embrace their devotion to each other for what it truly was and I think thatās BEAUTIFUL
