Thanks Locked Tomb for giving us the Necromancer and Cav dynamic. An incredibly strong bond that exists between two people, and it doesn’t necessarily have to be a romantic one. Ride or die in a way that can be insanely toxic or a beautiful union.
(As an aro person I love new ways to categorize non-romantic relationships. Moirails is another one…)
But mainly I was thinking about Mythic Quest randomly and how Poppy and Ian are so necromancer and cav coded.
Oh, Viktor and Jayce too.

It’s basically a tank/wizard dynamic, so it’s not exactly reinventing the wheel, but I get your vibe.
It’s not reinventing the wheel, it’s creating a certain in-universe dynamic. (Drift compatible is another one I just remembered!!)
Adept/Cav isn’t about a buff person defending a little nerd… There’s definitely a crossover in both dynamics where they are stronger together/balance each other out, but there is so much more going on with adept/cav…
It’s that a person is trained, sometimes from birth, to defend their adept, and makes a vow to protect them and is completely devoted to them. (More of a Pearl and Rose situation than tank/wizard…wait Pearl even uses rapiers…add her to the list)
This person also matches the adept more than just “is strong” (Cam is not a tank) They don’t just happen to be perfect for each other like tank/wizard, one is forged to fit the other during their training.
There’s a huge power dynamic that could easily be abused. The fact that the adept could disregard their cav’s feelings if they wanted, but often adepts will choose to be as devoted to their Cavs as they are to them….sobs
The whole concept of achieving lyctorhood…. The Grand Lysis scene where Paul is born is NOT just a tank/wizard situation. (Neither is Jayce and Viktor at the end of arcane…)
