had a dream last night where i was attending an auditorium sized socratic seminar on if griddlehark was butch/femme or butch/butch. there were fistfights.
Ortus: I believe that we are trapped in a labyrinth of, consciously or unconsciously, Lady Harrowhark’s making. Although she is a mere seventeen years of age, she has endured enough pain and accrued enough power to fell a Lyctor. Do not underestimate the machinations of her dark, twisted mind.
The machinations of Harrow’s dark, twisted mind: What if I was Gideon’s cavalier 🤔🤔🤔🗡🗡🗡What if she was a charming princess and I was an impoverished little nun 🤴🤴🤴💓💓💓 What if she worked at a coffee shop ☕☕☕🤗🤗🤗
harrowhark nonagesimus is the character of all time. she’s 3'6 and made of soggy pipe cleaners and will hiss at anyone who gets too close to her and yet she is almost universally beloved. palamedes sextus is like this is my best friend and my special guy. ianthe tridentarius is like i WILL marry this nasty smelly woman. gideon nav devoted her soul and body to her after hating her for 17 slutty, slutty years. god himself was like you are the wildest and saddest bitch i’ve ever met and you are a daughter to me. and harrowhark is just sitting there with ¾ of a brain and vomit on her robe
pyrrha and camilla and palamades all making nona eat food even when she would rather eat sand or a marker cap because they love her. nona’s friends at school letting her know she is being an appalling baby by not teasing her about certain things, because they love her. hot sauce forgiving her, because she loves her. t shirt birthday gift. telling stories to fall asleep. trying to give choices even when there arent any. swimming with jellyfish in the dead of night. go hide in the closet, you don’t have to watch this. birthdays are once a year but sure, you can have one at 6 months. they did it. it’s done. you can’t take loved away.
“Green-and-breathing thing, big ghost, the drinker, transformed, what will you eat now? Where will your body go? What did he do to you, to make you this way?”
Sometime after GtN came out, Tamsyn Muir made a
post where she gave a bit more detail about her characters’ looks, talked a bit
more about how she imagines them. And I remember noting that she talked about
race and ethnicity in a distinctly New Zealand way. She described multiple
characters as Polynesian: Tongan, Samoan, Maori and mixed Pasifika. She used a New
Zealand-specific word, pakeha, to describe white people, and specified that a
Chinese character was New Zealand Chinese. The Sixth, described as Middle Eastern,
are the only people not explicitly tied to NZ, (although of course Middle Eastern
people do live on NZ, too.)
At the time, I thought Muir was simply making a reference to her own New Zealand
background, adding a touch of Aotearoa flavour to her fictional world. After NtN, I’m genuinely shaken. I don’t think
John revived anyone else. Guys, I think everyone’s a Kiwi.
“You’re going to die spewing your own lungs out of your nostrils, having failed at the finish line because you couldn’t help but prattle about why you killed innocent people, as though your reasons were interesting…”
I think fanartists mostly get harrowhark “evil stick no tiddy goth witch” nonagesimus’ physique correct but some of y'all are very much overestimating gideon’s cleavage. our girl is wearing a bandeau. no one above an a cup is pulling off star jumps in a strapless bra. all pecs no tiddy.
Sorry I was just really busy thinking about how Gideon spent her entire brief life lusting after women in magazines because the only ones around her were elderly and/or treated her like garbage her entire life, only to enter a teenage death game where she was immediately overwhelmed into silence by the presence of real human women she was attracted to, some of whom it actually turns out were attracted to her in return, only because of everything going on and her own inexperience she barely spoke to them let alone touched them– even seeing the girl she grew up alongside without face paint discomfited her– and then died (for that girl!) a virgin at eighteen. But it’s fine because she came back for a minute, and spent most of that time learning that her mother didn’t love her and “confirming” that the girl she died for also didn’t love her, featuring a jilted asshole who then became her only friend solely on the basis of them “both” having unrequited feelings for said girl, leading up to half a year of imperialism for the sake of the father she never knew, looking in vain for the love of her life, only to then be kissed by someone who looks just like her. So is it any surprise that she “did not respond;” that she didn’t know how to kiss her back? Is it any surprise that she trembled? The expression on the corpse’s face could not have been more rigid with shock and disbelief– The most shock and disbelief Gideon had ever felt was at the idea that a girl she loved could love her back, in any physical way. Except it wasn’t her, actually, so Gideon just had to sit with this, alone, because not a single person around her cared about anything she might be feeling, as per usual, only solidifying the fact of her aloneness. But, yeah, please repeat whatever it is you just said to me I’m sure it’s just as important.
In the ARC version the chapters read out THETOWERWANTSJOHNGAIUS
Alsoooo Judith mentioned the tower in her bout of madness, nona said she was afraid of it.
Also if harrow is headed towards a tower and gideon and ianthe are both tower princes??? WHAT DOES IT MEAN
The consensus so far is that the tower is canaan house, which probably has some unfinished business with John. Like in gtn when harrow suggested a secret room and Abigail said the same thing in htn.
