maybe this is old news but what if the gideon → kiriona name change had to do with ianthe? like obviously there are lots of other themes surrounding john and renaming/ownership/imperialism etc BUT let us not forget that ianthe is literally unable to say gideon’s name (courtesy of harrow and the favor of the chain)
