when gideon says i’m so bloody sorry and THATs when harrow loses it. because she needs gideon, and she needs her as an enemy. she’s clung to their mutual hatred all her life, it’s the fire that keeps her heart beating, it’s armour even more than the bones she wears. gideon not hating her, gideon forgiving her, is unthinkable. for harrowhark nonagesimus, walking war crime, being hated is so, so much easier than being loved. gideon opens the floodgates, and harrow breaks.
reading gideon the ninth is amazing these books have so much reread value and rlly need to be read multiple times for full appreciation
first time round i was seeing everything through gideon’s eyes, who has no fucking clue what’s going on, and that’s a whole reading experience. this time i’m reading it knowing all the lyctors by name, understanding the characters, finally piecing together what’s actually happening, and that’s a whole different reading experience
i’ll probably want to do a third read eventually just to properly look at the complex character dynamics

another amazing thing about the locked tomb trilogy is that despite having read the books i can still see posts about them and go WAIT THAT HAPPENED?
