So I made an Alecto the Ninth bingo card.

By the way, Paul’s BOE name is And Then a Plank in Reason Broke and I Dropped Down and Down A Trian n-Aill Oc Imbirt Ḟidchille My Heart It Pounds Yeah You Got Me.

[Emily Dickinson’s “I felt a Funeral, in my Brain”; a line from the Táin Bo Cuailnge, Old Irish for “[he spent] a third [of the day] playing chess”; “Tik Tok” - Ke$ha]

Reason for short.

also pyrrha talks about anastasia & early ninth house. “helped at a birth once” “painted a nursery here once” they def knew each other a lot and given how significant anastasia seems in alecto’s story i think we’re gonna get a lot more anastasia lore

iirc we don’t really see g1deon perform much necromancy? he is able to enter the river without any issues (his body does not collapse when he vacates it, like harrow’s does), and we know he is a thanergy sink. but we never see him attack harrow with a lyctor’s full necromantic power - he goes after her with swords and spears. (we do see him ‘retract’ the bone handle of his spear.)

how much of his reliance on weapons is his personal preference, and how much is because he too “misapprehended the lyctoral process”? is he a half-baked lyctor the same as harrow is? and given another couple of thousand years, would gideon nav have been driving harrow’s body for periods just as pyrrha was sometimes driving g1deon’s?

So I genuinely don’t think he was the necromancer of the two. I think he was the cav.

Partly because my dude is insanely cav coded.

But also, despite Gideon being the scientist and Pyrrha being a cop, she talks like she was the brains, necromancy-wise. She speaks about Canaan house like SHE designed the trial, like SHE was doing the necromancy. From page 83:

“You should be draining and replacing her fucking brain fluid,” said Pyrrha. “When Gideon and I designed that trial, I used to crack his skull and sieve it myself, just as a control variable. It’s aggregative. I doubt you’re testing her white blood cell count either. The only other people I put through that damn trial were Mercy and Cris, because only Cris didn’t mind being trepanned on the regular. Fucking around with souls is the problem, Sextus … you can’t ever get the full data on souls.”

Mercy was the necro, Cris the cav, and it was Cris getting trepanned. Cris and Gideon.

Would getting the roles the wrong way around count as “misapprehending the process”, do you think? I do. I do very much.

Reading any book in the locked tomb series is like walking into a room hungover to find there’s a massive jigsaw puzzle going on in the room except you’re hungover and also a bomb recently went off in the room and you have to wait for your teammates (tam muir and also the characters) to bring you all the pieces in little fits and starts so you can begin to consider putting them together into the coherent whole they’re supposed to be but like. A bomb did go off and you are hungover and also at least one of your teammates, if not several of them, has started eating the puzzle pieces. So this might take a hot second.
