just finished my reread of htn, and something something so many characters loving harrow when she sees herself as unlovable. ofc gideon is a whole thing, and there’s whatever’s going on with ianthe and whatever’s going on with jod, but i’m really talking about the river bubbles. so many people loving her so simply, just because they can. ortus saying she was a neglected child and he should’ve done better, palamedes calling her a sight for sore eyes, abigail feeling responsible for her in loco parentis. the hugs that she doesn’t really know how to deal with but finds herself leaning into anyway.

the realisation that, to abigail, to all these adults in their thirties, there’s really not that much difference between harrow and jeannemary. she’s a child to be protected, and they’re going to protect her. the way they all fight for her.

the way all these characters are dead.

the sheer warmth towards the end of Canaan House The Remix really catches harrow off guard, and makes everything else that happens in those books hit that much harder.
