What’s The Locked Tomb About?

but also

Any Questions?

“But you see, Palamedes, I don’t mind dying,” said Nona, trying to make him understand. “I’ve been doing it for ages. I’m not scared.”

Nona you had no way of knowing this but it’d be hard to say anything worse to Palamedes 😬

we need more concerning women in media. I want to be watching a TV show and to go “oh that woman has problems.” I want to watch a woman constantly make the worst decisions in the world with no sign of stopping

I don’t read a lot of fic but when I first finished GtN I decided to try a few and I picked a college au fic because I assumed it wouldn’t spoil me for HtN. Unfortunately it sort of did because it revealed Headmaster John or whatever as Gideon’s dad and I was like damn okay I think that means Griddle is the child of god then. And then when it came to the name situation Gideon was like “yeah and you know what? His lizard was named Gideon. He named me after his damn pet Lizard.” And I was like oh hmm okay I guess in HtN we meet God’s pet or something. Cool. I finished HtN almost two years ago and I’m only just now am I remembering this fic and like. Why did they make Gideon the First a Lizard.

something i really like about the locked tomb series in particular is its defiance of this trope i see in a lot of queer media and that is the Gay Soulmates trope. it’s basically this thing where when we write queer people we only write them as attracted to the main love interests. it exists in straight media too obviously, and i understand the appeal but tlt just. doesn’t do that. gideon is unabashedly attracted to pretty much every woman in canaan house. it is Very Clear that she thinks all of them are incredibly hot.

and this is important because it reminds me a lot of this thing i’ve noticed where canon queer fandoms get overall less interaction than fandoms that aren’t, in no small part because of the fear of ‘erasing’ the main ship by making them aro or ace or genuinely interpreting them as friends or even, heaven forbid, making them in love with someone other than the Soulmate Love Interest. because gay people are never attracted to anybody except the people destined to be their long-term partners and celebrities from a distance amiright. perish the thought.

anyway the real win in tlt was gideon’s admiration for hot women

what if they're both pouring through the thesaurus. tbh the ninth probably has more than one but it's funnier to me if they're somehow accidentally alternating studying from the only one available in the library, unaware of the other, except when it's not there which is clearly a DELIBERATE ACT OF PSYCHOLOGICAL WARFARE (it's not, Ortus has it. they would know this if either of them used the sign out sheet.)

this is incredibly funny & i accept it as canon immediately

it’s probably the sleep deprivation but i am Obsessed with the worldbuilding implications of palamedes sextus thinking nurses are sexy. “those little outfits nurses wear” is vague enough that it could mean anything. it was almost certainly a throwaway joke but like.

in the 10,000 years, both fashion and medical PPE should have changed/improved pretty significantly, and the specific 21st century image of a Sexy Nurse would logically be either lost to the denizens of the nine houses completely or not considered sexy anymore, even as (artificially?) stagnated as their culture seems to be.

some possibilities:

[ID: a stock image of two arms shaking hands. the left arm is labelled ‘jason mendoza’ and the right is labelled 'gideon nav’. the point where they are shaking hands is labelled 'faking a vow of silence to hide how much they are not a monk’.]

just something i noticed

there should be a show about a modern girl trying to achieve sainthood/martyrdom i think you’d have a lot of shit to work with there also it would be kind of funny like her peers are at an age where theyre obsessing over boys while shes obsessing over how her chances of being burned at the cross is getting thinner and thinner and how hard being canonized will be in this age of late stage capitalism where she’ll sin regardless of intent and also since at a young age shes harbored an intense fixation over female saints not because of any underlying reasons it’s totally not because she’s a lesbian and also one time in 4th grade during recess she tried to incite her classmates to stone her to death and she likes to go hunting for angels and once she tried to rob a medieval grave under the belief that her holy weapon was hidden deep there. she’s such a silly little girl

the locked tomb series is a *spins wheel* post-apocalyptic scifi *picks card from hat* fantasy *throws dart at dartboard* murder mystery *flips coin* comedy *rolls dice* psychological thriller *checks notes* uuuh apparently high school romcom.

lesbians are included.

Taz Muir really went, if you can’t put the contents of a library through a magical rototiller then what’s the gosh-darned point of being an author
