something i really like about the locked tomb series in particular is its defiance of this trope i see in a lot of queer media and that is the Gay Soulmates trope. it’s basically this thing where when we write queer people we only write them as attracted to the main love interests. it exists in straight media too obviously, and i understand the appeal but tlt just. doesn’t do that. gideon is unabashedly attracted to pretty much every woman in canaan house. it is Very Clear that she thinks all of them are incredibly hot.
and this is important because it reminds me a lot of this thing i’ve noticed where canon queer fandoms get overall less interaction than fandoms that aren’t, in no small part because of the fear of ‘erasing’ the main ship by making them aro or ace or genuinely interpreting them as friends or even, heaven forbid, making them in love with someone other than the Soulmate Love Interest. because gay people are never attracted to anybody except the people destined to be their long-term partners and celebrities from a distance amiright. perish the thought.
anyway the real win in tlt was gideon’s admiration for hot women
