Homestuck Act 8
In the aftermath of Homestuck Act 7, fans are feeling a lot of things. Impressed by the dedication and technical skill required to transform a webcomic into the anime it was always meant to be. Bewildered by the open ending. A sense of loss at no longer having the silly MSPA face to keep us company in a perpetually open browser tab.
Some of us aren’t ready for the adventure to be over. We’re creeping through the eerie silence of this abandoned city, like urban wildlife emerging after the spontaneous disappearance of the human species. Our whiskers aquiver with excitement as our little feet go pap pap pap on the pavement, because where do we even start? There’s so much wonderful garbage to dig through!
It’s our city now.
Homestuck Act 8 is being brought to you by fans who just aren’t ready to say goodbye. the project is being spearheaded by Tumblr user @gamzee , and there has been an overwhelming response from creative talents volunteering to contribute to this effort. If you are part of this creative team, and wish to keep abreast of news and announcements, please follow @act8officialteam . There will be SPOILERS, so if you want to enjoy Act 8 as it unfolds, please only follow the @act8official account in order to preserve the mystery.
It’s been only days since Act 7 landed, but folks have been hard at work during this short time. Act 8 will consist of 8 parts, and the rough draft has already been written. Team member @skeledot has also written a song specifically for this project, which is just amazing! Thank you for your hard work, it is very much appreciated. A forum is being put together by @gamzee‘s childhood friend, Zyy, who will also be moderating it with assistance from myself (@bluebirdofgrumpiness). It should be up next week.
This project is moving fast! We tentatively expect the beginning of Act 8 to be released in May, and for it to be entirely completed within a year.

Is there a way to collaborate?
Anyone who is 18 or older and interested in contributing is encouraged to fill out our Google Docs Form.

are the end game ships that were implied or canon already going to stay the same? By canon i mean rosemary and davekat and by implied i mean davepetajade and john/roxy or/and /terezi
I think this probably veers too far into spoiler territory for me to answer here, but we are working hard to make this a believable continuation of canon.

This ask took me a while to answer, because I wanted to consult our project leader directly, first. Here is what they have to say on the subject:
Yes; the google doc is open to all ages, since we can quickly and easily remove adult content if we see it. I think the forums will be a similar case. But minors will never have their skype contacts or other contact information intentionally collected or shared, so they are not encouraged to use the google submission form. Additionally, the irc is not guaranteed to be moderated even if we recommend age appropriate behavior, so we advise discretion.
We fully intend every aspect of act 8’s final product to be age-appropriate and accessible to readers of any chronological degree, but we also care about the safety and privacy of minors in the fandom. Hopefully these avenues allow a fun way to contribute.
The google doc can be found here, and is a great way to let us know what you want to see from Act 8, make suggestions for how to tie up those pesky dangling plot threads, etc. More information on the forum and the policies thereof will be coming soon.
There are many tremendously talented young Homestuck fans out there, but the safety and privacy of minors takes precedence.
Development Timeline - April
4/13- 4/17 - Create a first draft of the entire act, google doc, irc, and google submissions form to allow the community to exchange ideas and submit interest
- 4/17-4/23 - Set up the forums, and begin delegating panels and assets to art contributors. Set up a website to host the act itself. Better project navigation from the main blog.
- 4/24-4/30 - Draw, write and animate the prologue and act 8 part 1
- Early May; Begin posting content proper.
While a doc is great for ideas, and IRC is great for chat, this growing community requires a more permanent and organized home for ideas and discussion.
The IRC channel and Google Docs will remain up, and character info, research, and suggestions are welcome on the boards as well. Organization is still spotty, but it will improve with feedback.
We hope this makes it easier to connect with the community building around this idea! The response so far has been very exciting.

im a minor, so i cant really contribute stuff to the actual team or anything, but if its ok, could i suggest having closure to relationships that got none? like dirk and jake, dave and john/jade, gamzee and karkat, etc.
Hi anon! Although the IRC and Google submission form are 18+, the Google doc (which you can visit from our Links page) is open to people of all ages, and is our primary space for suggestions and brainstorming right now, if you would like to contribute :) And while I can’t guarantee specific relationships, I will say that closure and completed character arcs are a primary concern for many of our team members.
ETA: I forgot to mention, the forum is also age appropriate, and can be found on the Links page as well.
So, uh... I'm interested to see where this project goes, and I love alternate ending type stuff, but it seems like y'all are being super entitled about the ending. The ending is Hussie's creation, and that's that- don't claim to "fix it".
I can see where
you’re coming from, and I know sometimes we joke about Homestuck
being “our city now”, but at its core this project comes from a
place of love. Andrew Hussie produced a groundbreaking
webcomic/multimedia experience that has reached an incredibly diverse
and passionate audience, and there’s nothing we could possibly do to
take that away from him, even if we wanted to.
Homestuck isn’t our
intellectual property, we just want to keep playing in this world he
built for a while longer. None of the contributors are gaining any
financial or other tangible benefit for their efforts. This is just a
way of exploring certain plot threads further, spending more time
with the characters we love, and perhaps for some of us one last
hurrah before we turn our attention to new, non-Homestuck things.
Anon, I hope you’ll stick around to see how the project goes, but either way, thank you for being interested.
Mass Follow Notice
In order to better get in touch with the individuals who responded to our Google Forms, we’ve made a mass follow. If anyone doesn’t want this blog following them after they’ve seen the links to the forum and google docs, we will certainly comply.
However, Tumblr urls were the one consistent element in the “contact” field for responses, with 35 out of 39 having their tumblr URL listed as one, or even the only username. Thus, this is the logical step. We will be unlisting our “following” section for the meantime, for security’s sake.

Hi folks, and welcome to our first Status Upd8 Saturday, where we tell you what the Act 8 team* has been up to lately. It’s been a busy week!
- The Act8Official Forums went up. Drop by for development plans, a look behind the scenes, or just to socialize. Please be aware, some boards, particularly Space & Time and Light & Void, will be littered with spoilers.
- Collected two entire pieces of music for Act 8. Wow!
- Thumbnailed the prologue, Act 8 Part 1, and sections of Act 8 Part 2.
- Made an animatic for the introductory flash to Act 8 Part 1. (If you don’t mind SPOILERS, you can see some of that content here.)
- Assigned visual materials for Act 8 Part 1 to volunteer artists.
- Established better project navigation from the Act8Official blog via the Links Page.
- So much writing. So much.
- Created first assumptions about due dates for Act 8 Part 1 materials.
Status Upd8 Saturday will be a weekly thing, so stop by again next weekend to see what we’ve been up to.
