Hey readers. Today I had the choice of staying home to work on the update or going out to look at beautiful, beautiful horses. I think that’s all I need to say on the matter.
Regardless, the update should be here in a couple of hours. Afterwards, I’ll be making a longer post about the next couple months of ACT 8, and a general recap of things up to this point. It’s not like anybody asked, but I’d like the status of the project in general to be anything but a secret, especially while I have absolutely nothing but good news to say about it.

It is just another layer of capricious mystery in this whole thing. I wish I could say I was intentionally piquing intrigue with deliberate restraint instead of just being really damn busy. Alright. It is five am, but that will not stop me from making the big post I promised.
It is a little over two and a half months since we began the Act 8 fan project. In that time we’ve produced two flashes, and the better half of the first two acts– 83 pages– as well as launching Caliborn’s peripheral materials. The team’s size and ability to produce content at the volume and quality that they do has exceeded my expectations completely. So I’m not worried about us going forward even a little. Basically nothing about this has been a struggle.
Speaking of the future. With the resources we have, I can work with the assumption that the fan act will have at least one walkaround and major (over four minutes) flash animation.
Directing act 8 is challenging, and there are ways I can improve, but overall the process has been smooth and enjoyable. Team 8 are wonderful, passionate folk. I often find myself caught up in their amazing creative momentum hoping to catch up and do them right. I am really proud to be trusted with their efforts.
So if you’ve been a part of this, no matter how small, even as a reader
who has shared with us a scrap of your good will; honestly, and truly,
thanks. I think there are good things to come.
Fun as it is, it’s still a lot of work. And two and a half months is about as long as I can do that without a break. The next week (from the 3rd to the 9th) there won’t be updates. This doesn’t mean folks won’t be working; I’ll be handing out tasks to my team tomorrow and leaving the rest in the capable hands of bluebird and austin. Me (and updates) will return Better, Faster and Stronger on the 13th of this month (July). You guys will probably not notice anything.
Basically; everything is going well and we are having fun. Thanks!
i have heard rumors of homestuck not actually being over, with the 413 author's note being deleted, along with other update mentions of homestuck being over... what if... act 8 becomes an official thing? will you continue?
Without offering any comment on the rumors, It really depends on what my team wants to do in that hypothetical situation. I would be happy to continue making the fanwork with them in light of resumed canon. I would be less happy to step on toes.
Either way, I don’t think it’s a decision that comes down to me. I’m little more than a bottleneck for things to pass through, most of those things being the feelings that got left in the fandom after act 7. I know my place in all this. I have gotten this far by not fighting the tides, and that is the truth. My best hopes are that act 8 is something that fills a niche in the homestuck readership timeline and beyond my best efforts to make it good times for folk, all I can do is cross my fingers.
art and story look like they could be 100% canon thus far!! I love the work y'all are doing, thank you so much, and please keep up the good work! I look forward to seeing more from the lot of you!

Act 8 is amazing and I'm so glad that it exists, and that it's being created by such wonderful people! I'm very intrigued by it and I feel the characters are acting as the most likely would in canon, which is really great! I'm just loving Act 8 and I think that all the people working on it are just plain amazing

I’m thrilled that the characterization is working for you! Rose is so important, and lots of folks on Team 8 love her. We try our best to be true to each character, and sometimes it can be a little intimidating, so it’s good to hear when we’re on the right track :o)
I've been wondering, how long will you keep act 8 going? Like just far enough for a sense of conclusion? Or just fun and games until whenever? Do you have an ending planned already? (you guys are doing this very well! I'm impressed) :D
The entirety of Act 8 is outlined, with development planned to take about a year total. So it should be over by Spring of 2017 or so, and we are hoping that it does provide some sense of closure :o)
i hope you guys are having fun working on this, but also remembering to take breaks! i imagine several hours get put into upd8s, so make sure to drink water, strech your hands, etc. thank you guys for all that you do!!!
What a sweet message, thank you anon! Luckily, tasks are assigned so that most team members don’t get too horribly buried under ridiculous piles of work, although our team leader tends to industriously buck this trend.

The Homestuck Act 8 fan project is in need of code-savvy people for both current and future Act 8 tasks. In particularly high demand right now are folks who are comfortable with Javascript and/or the Javascript-based engine Jterniabound. Current tasks involve coding an interactive walkaround game.

I just couldn't control my inner fangirl and I screeched, completely forgetting that we had people over as I hugged my laptop with a grin which refused to come off my face for a minute and 8 seconds. This is what Homestuck has done to me. Anyways, thanks; keep up the amazing work!!!!!!!!

It would be pretty cool if we always updated at 8 o’clock sharp, but mostly the upd8 gets posted whenever the last-minute tweaking and fiddling with it is done.
Ok, the comic Upd8 at 8, but what 8, i live on Chile and the Upd8 of the Wednesday were always published on Thursday.
Oh, we don’t actually post at 8 most of the time. We just aim to get the upd8 to you sometime on the correct date, although sometimes it does run a little bit late. And we use Pacific Standard Time, since that’s our team leader’s timezone :o)

Hello, I've heard rumors floating around that in ACT 8 DaveKat will not be canon solely on the fact that the creators don't support the ship. I don't like believing everything I hear unless it's from the actual group it self so I was hoping you could shed some light on the rumors without spoiling too much of what you have planned. I know the FAQ has stated that the comic won't stray far from canon ships.
We’re not supposed to give spoilers for ships around here, but we’ve tap-danced on that line with DaveKat a few times in the past, so…
I’m not sure where you heard this rumor, but I can say that Team 8 encompasses a large number of people with a staggering variety of opinions on ships, and that a not insignificant percent of the team is quite fond of DaveKat.
I would advise DaveKat shippers to not worry overly much about the fate of their ship in Act 8. I don’t think you’ll be unhappy with what we have planned.

This is Officially the blog of a Homestuck fan project called Act 8, which picks up from the end of canon Act 7, and continues from there. It’s intended to be mostly canon compliant, but is not affiliated or sanctioned in any way with/by Andrew Hussie or What Pumpkin Studios.
