Could you explain the fraymotif between Dirk and Dave?

I’m not entirely sure what happened myself tbh, especially since it kinda looks like whatever it was trying to do failed to work. It kinda looks like they’re stunning him with Time shit, then trying, iunno, break him apart somehow? Possibly suck the English out of him, or destroy it or something. Whatever it was meant to accomplish, it probably didn’t, is my guess.
